I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today, Cuzz....

Wind, work, and more tragedy. My wife’s uncle (actually her mom’s uncle) passed away at 82 from COVID Monday night. He was the one who married my wife and me 11 years ago this coming May. One of the nicest humans I’ve ever met.

My grandfather also landed back in the hospital yesterday with another heart attack scare but he is ok for now.

Losing my mother in law last May was enough, now things are just piling up. Rough times here but we will push on. Just wish the weather cooperates so I can ride soon but with rain in the weekend forecast it might not be the case.

:(

So sorry for you loss:(

Pouring down rain today, so went running instead of biking. Dash and I had the trail to ourselves... no one at the trailhead and not a single hiker or runner the entire trail. 5 miles of ups and downs around the lake.

Returned home, got to take a shower with the dog :) We were both pretty covered with mud :)

Playing in the snow today! Jenks Lake area was the plan, but kinda' crowded. Went down to South Fork and we had the place to ourselves!

Home Depot finally restocked the rack I needed to match the one we already had. Spent most the day organizing all of my wife’s holiday decorations after putting the new rack together. Still a lot of stuff to get rid of, especially baby things, but waiting to have a garage sale.

From Christmas trees to generators and ice chests.. there’s a lot of crap on these racks.

I got up to ride and drove up to bumblebee for a black canyon trail ride. Got out of the car and it was 40° with strong winds. Would have been a 15 mile trek into the wind before the turn around trip, no thanks. Thought I’d head over to lake pleasant, maybe the wind is not so bad there. Got on the carefree highway and the wind was practically blowing me into the next lane by the shooting range. Quick u turn home to do some projects around the house and maybe try this afternoon.

Shrinkage, bulking, and subsidence are primarily dependent upon the degree of soil compaction achieved during construction. The degree to which fill soils are compacted and variations in the in-situ density of existing soils will influence earth volume changes. A shrinkage factor of between 12 and 20 percent should be expected as soil is removed and replaced as compacted fill.[1] The anticipated maximum dynamic settlement is expected to be 1 inch with a static settlement of approximately ½ inch in a 40-foot span.[2] Accordingly, the project would incorporate proper engineering design and construction in conformance with current CBC standards and the recommendations outlined in the project-specific Geotechnical Investigation (Appendix XX) to ensure a sufficient layer of engineered fill or densified soil is prepared beneath any proposed structural footings/‌foundations.

I'm on vacation and didn't ride yesterday because I woke up at 2 in the morning with excruciating pain in my right side. Yep. Another kidney stone. The pain was bad enough that it had me vomiting throughout the day. I took the painkillers I was prescribed last time and I slept when I could. It finally passed around 6 this morning. Hoping to have the strength to get a little ride in later.

I have a very high tolerance for pain.....but passing kidney stones is the kinda pain that one cannot have tolerance for. It's the kinda pain that drops me to my knees. My last one scared me most....having to pee but not being able to.

All better? I hope...
Mostly. Thanks. :)
Had plans to ride yesterday but had a feeling there was another kidney stone on the heels of the last one. There was. It wasn't as painful as the last one but it made its last hurrah around 1pm yesterday and it lasted for most of the afternoon. I didn't get off the couch until around 9 last night. I got a relatively good night's sleep and woke up this morning feeling close to 100%. I think I'm done with the stones for now.

Oooof. Wow - how excruciating. Do you know what causes them for you?

Dr. Google says too much vitamin D3. I don't remember why but my cardiologist prescribed a daily dose of 5000 iu which I now believe is too much. I passed my first stone a few years after I starting taking it, then now, a few years after my last one.
Yes, too much. Your body is telling you so. Keep taking it but drop the dose. I hear that D3 is also a factor in increasing our natural immunity to covid.

I always preferred the Beatles to the Stones anyway!
Glad you are back to almost normal Ed

It has been POURING rain here in the NC since Sunday the 6th. Trails are closed - been mostly running instead of biking, though I have gotten a few road rides in. Was able to drive out to South Mountains State Park to check it out for a future ride; 60 miles away but looks like a fun loop 16 miles, 2400 feet.

My Garmin watch is telling me I suck because I only did two days of cardio this week(!) I ran 5 miles today in pouring rain, 35 degrees, so Garmin can shove it :)
