The Weather Thread

Kids should be able to make a snowman but the backyard is buried so no jacuzzi this trip.

This is from July 25, 2019.With 700+ inches this year how long will the season last?
Should be a good year to slide and bike - if the bike park opens this year!
Yep, at my friend’s house over by the golf course. He has a corporate black pass too so front row parking and no lift lines.

Some good tree runs today. Tomorrow is going to be fire with more mountain open.

There was snow on the ground at Mammoth on CLOSING day at the bike park in 2019. I imagine the park will still open...eventually, but it will be a late season before the upper part of the mountain opens. Kinda makes me sad, I was looking forward to some Mammoth trips this year.

But I guess we do need the snow more than I need a bike park.

I read yesterday that Mammoth will be open "through July" but have not verified that. I guess it depends how warm in gets this Spring. I'm heading up there in mid-May. Their latest closing ever is August 13th which is a Sunday again this year so maybe.....? In the same post I read, it claimed that Heavenly will be closing on July 4th but they are severely cutting back open terrain after tomorrow and the locals are a lil' upset.

@mtbMike my two local resorts Cherry Peak and Beaver Mtn are closing by mid April. And, both of them still have insane amounts of snow. The reason they close so early is most of the workers are farmers and can only work seasonal. At least that's what a few of the lifties at Cherry told me.

Oh yeah, Beaver Mtn is having a snowmobile hill climb competition the weekend after they close. Maybe that has something to do with it. I've seen billboards for it, might have to go check it out. Sounds like something fun to watch.

Seasonal job aspect makes sense. I bet Mammoth made the call to stay open through July after getting enough staff to commit to the extra time. Plus their mtn bike/summer operation is big so probably cross over employees or summer crew willing to work the snow stuff at first. I’m just spitballing though, ha.

Absolutely....I went to all the Summit County (CO) resorts as well as Park City this season and at least 1/3 if not more of their employees were from Argentina, Peru and Chile. I'm sure their work visa's are expiring and they have to go home. It was the same way at Mammoth in the late 90's and early 2000's with Australian employees as they had 4 month work visa's.
