The Weather Thread

t, a lot of that snow is going to melt,” said Carlos Molina, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford, Calif. “We’re going to basically lose a lot of the snow that fell from the previous storms. We’re looking at potential for flooding.”"

"Indeed, the highest likelihood of flood-related impacts are in lower-elevation areas with unusually deep snowpack, Swain said. Small rivers and streams in those areas will see significant potential for runoff issues, as will some urban areas — particularly in places where storm drains are already clogged by snow."

Lots of chatter and news stories here in Utah this week about flooding when this record snowpack with a higher than normal water content melts off. I guess they had crazy flooding in SLC back in 1983. They are already letting water out of reservoirs here to prepare for the melt-off. Meanwhile, we've had 43" the last couple days and another 6-20" predicted before we go back home. :p:D

That’s when you say “screw it” and go snowboarding. :D
This... and the amount of snow I have been shoveling has got me in prime shape. Best shape in probably 15 years at least. Cleared all the ice dams off the valleys on the roof yesterday. Went and filled our first load of sand bags today, going back for more tomorrow. We be ready for this crazy melt off people talking about. Cache Valley is supposed to get a good amount of rain over the next week. An old local in my town that was clearing snow out of our gutters told me today to be prepared. That the last time Preston had this much snow on the gorund some kids were riding their canoes down our street. Can't wait to see how this pans out. BRING ON MORE SNOW!

So what does 5" of rain do to ten feet of snow? I think we might find out this weekend. And it won't be good. :bang:

Mt. High only predicting around 1/2-3/4" of rain. We can live with that, although it will screw up the wonderfully soft conditions before most of us had a chance to try it.

You can have the boat, I’ll take the pot of gold at both ends of that
The second rainbow seems to be sprouting up from LC's former house when she was a featured star of Laguna Beach - the Real Orange County! So sort of a pot of gold - at least as far as property values go.

Had a nice break in the weather yesterday. I was in the gym using an elliptical for a few minutes and realized how wonderful it looked outside. Decided I would risk it and get on the bike for a short ride. If it started raining, I could just come back.

Started a downpour when I was going 40 MPH downhill, and I was soaked in about 3 minutes, an hour from home and 45 minutes from my GF's work :bang:

Still nice to actually ride outside though.

Yeah, SLIGHTLY. Dunno where youve been hiding but we are approching 200% of normal in the Southland.

Haha, slightly is definitely an understatement. While many of us aren’t badly affected it’s been brutal for a lot of people.

I’m using my buddy’s house in Mammoth next week and luckily his place is within a gated community that gets the roads and driveways cleared quickly. The property manager responded to an email that the jacuzzi won’t be accessible since they can’t throw snow up to dig a route to it in the backyard because there is currently 30 feet piled up there.

I’ll post some pictures when we get there, I expect it to look similar to this one:
