The Movie Thread...

I really loved it. Much more that TFA, which I thought was too convoluted and flighty. So we'll have to agree to disagree!

Space Opera, FTW!!!!

BTW, for a REALLY great SF fictional universe, PLEASE check out the Expanse books by James S.A. Corey. They are PERFECT! The TV show is also REALLY good, called The Expanse.
Hard SF, mixed with space opera themes, coupled with cosmic dread... damn fine mix!!!
I just got in to The Expanse TV series. Rented the first season from Netflix.
Really liking it. Raw and gritty. Great CGI. I like the characters as well.

Just watched Star Wars and I liked a lot even though some friends told me it was so so.... Btw I watched it at Harkins theaters in Goodear AZ and the seats are E-lazy boys ...I was (literally) laying on the Lazy boy...

I have seen all 9 Star Wars at Big Newport going back 40 years :)

A New Hope rocked my world on that giant 70mm screen "Largest West of the Mississippi". I wanted to BE Luke Skywalker

I saw A Force Awakens 38 years later after the big upgrade.. gotta say it brought back some memories.

I liked TLJ very much not perfect but very good / solid. There is some good food for thought and things to agree & disagree about. There are some finer detail Item I want to absorb again, will be seeing again with The Wife... Couldn't wait for her schedule. :devilish:

I worked with a whole crew of kids during the first Dot Com that had only seen them on TV till they brought them back... Funny we had 2 laptop running on a loop.. On with a pirated copy of The Phantom Menace and one looping Office Space... Ahh those were the days.

EDIT: complete dork confession I went out and bought the original soundtrack on a vinyl record it got lots of use.

I was hoping to see it again before Christmas but all the show times are filled up. I am planing to see it a second time with my wife and it looks like we might wait until we are back in Havasu later next week.

Well... to be precise (can't believe I am going here) ...

"Many Bothans died to bring us this information."
by Mon Mothma is in the RTOJ and is referring the half destroyed but now fully operational Death Star in that episode, BUT it has become "erroneously melded" to Rogue One.. (see here)

Rogue One actually comes from 2 lines IMHO, but it is from the Opening Crawl of A New Hope

"It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire."

"During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an
entire planet."

BTW the opening crawl was an after thought, as the story goes Lucas screen a half baked version of SW to Spielberg, DePalma, Coppola etc... and they "Didn't Get it" where did these people come from?, what / why are they doing this? etc.. etc.. the crawl set up the movie, gave it context, and now is universally identified with Star Wars.

Sigh... I am headed to the Garage now....

I finally watched Die Hard. Not being an action film fan I have to admit, that it was pretty damn good.

I, Tonya was funny, and watching Margot Robbie never gets old!

For the longest time, I thought it was a made-for-tv movie. When I asked my wife when it was coming out she replied, "We should go see it."
Well, I walked straight into that one-I hate going to the movies.

My wife, who decidedly does not care for violent movies, will consistently go around quoting Die Hard lines.
It's our holiday tradition!

Ironically it tends to appear on lists of Christmas movies.

Pretty much a classic action flick... and soooo many good lines...

Dwayne T. Robinson: We're gonna need some more FBI guys, I guess.

Watched Greatest Showman tonight. Wolverine has a great stage presence! It was pretty good. An original movie for sure.

We saw Molly's Game last weekend, and hopefully The Post this weekend. Grownup movie season is always great! Molly is a good one. I liked it a lot. Really looking forward to Post, although I've been burnt out on Tom Hanks for a while.

FYI, Costco has a good deal on Movie Pass right now: https://www.costco.com/MoviePass-and-Fandor-12-Month-Subscription-eVoucher.product.100395930.html

$89 for a year's worth of movies ain't bad! I've seen 13 movies since mid-October, so it's already paid for itself in three months!
