The Movie Thread...

Horrible fan if you leave out The Metatron.

Saw "The Post" today. Since it was not just "history" to me - I remember it live - I was really looking for accuracy (as far as possible, of course. I know it's a movie.) and was pretty surprised. Damn good story, well told, and it doesn't hurt that Hanks was in it. I don't think I've ever seen a movie he was in that I thought was bad. I'll add that I was once again underwhelmed by Meryl Streep. She did her usual mumbling through the movie, except in one scene. Which rocked, BTW.

No spoilers here - see it.

Was going to see it this weekend, but my wife got sick. So I just rode bikes a lot instead.

Of all the recent DisMarLuca films, this one is pretty near the top! I will go see it again...
They hype is real for Black Panther. Exceeded my expectations.

I liked it, but didn't love it. The world-building was pretty amazing, Coogler did some heavy lifting to put it all together! For me, I wish but they spent a little more time developing Killmonger. MBJ was the BEST part of the movie IMHO, and I wanted to see more of him as well as his motivation/past.
Also didn't like Klaue's story arc at all. Really, that's it???
For the record, Thor: Ragnarok is my go-to movie of the MCU, followed closely by CA: Civil War.

Saw this last night at the Arclight in Hollywood. It's only playing in select theaters at this time. Pretty darn enjoyable

Written and directed by Wes Anderson, same guy that brought you Moonrise Kingdom, Life Aquatic, Rushmore, The Grand Budapest Hotel...

Didn't ride as I took my son to see Ready Player One. We both loved the book. He liked the movie a lot, and I thought it was okay. Casting of the leads was no good IMHO. Neither one had much screen presence, and they were far too pretty for a distopian future. But the supporting cast was good, and the set pieces were all great. Valerian was the same way. Must be getting old.
The first 10 minutes was literally a voice-over explaining the world. Spielberg forgot the "show, don't tell" mantra of movie-making. I listened closely and don't think I heard any Rush, what's up with that!?!? And they did not do the proper count for the Holy Hand Grenade. But all the pop-culture references throughout it were just wonderful to watch and try to catch. Most are very subtle, and not hugely over the top at all. And a GREAT Iron Giant portion of the movie, especially with all the correct sounds.
Long/short: Mixed reviews, of a flawed but fun diversion.
