The Movie Thread...

You don't get to be a captain at 60. Three star (VADM), maybe. Maybe not. There are strict time in grade/promote or separate requirements, and he didn't make them.

But then I don't ever expect movies like Top Gun, or Final Countdown, or McHale's Navy to get the details right.

The movie explained why he is still a Captain and still around. There is also nothing that says the original took place in 1986 ... it just says "present day." The movie was also supposed to be released two years ago but delayed by Covid.
="tick, post: 278442, member: 991"]Spoiler alert!

im still trying to figure out how the bartender owns a beachfront house, 40 foot yacht, and a classic 911. So many questions.

She is the "admirals daughter" referenced in the original, and who knows what she did with her life over 30 years. She also owns the bar, so not just a bartender.

Watched No Time To Die last night on Prime. Pretty good Bond flick. Lots of action, creepy villain, gadgets, chase scenes, pretty scenery, body count that strains the limits of excess, etc. Liked the intro song and visuals during the opening credits. Haunting sound of Billie Eilish was different. And the bookend simple, classic Satchmo song at the closing credits, so beautiful and ironic. I won't spoil the rest.

Had a little movie night at my in-laws’ last night. Baz Lurhmann’s Elvis was surprisingly entertaining. It’s a struggle for me to get through a standard 90 minute movie, but, I have to say, this kept my attention for the entire 2 hrs and 40 minutes.

we also watched Me Time with Marky Mark and Kevin Hart. They mostly beat up Vietnamese people and cracked gay jokes…
Oh, wait, no, that’s what they’ve both done in the past…
It was just a dumb, kinda fun movie. No laughs on my end. My wife thought a poo joke was hilarious though.o_O

Watched Me Time the other night. You're spot on, a dumb fun movie. And yeah, the poo joke about the rabbit I found hilarious.

Did not know the walburg was Marky mark. But then don't know who Marky mark is so there is that.

Shudder/AMC+ have this really interesting series called Cursed Films that I started watching last night.

I had no idea about the deaths on John Landis’ twilight zone movie. I’m sitting there watching the scene where it happened, thinking they’re going to cut-away, and then, “Oh, Sh!t!”

I can’t believe no one went to jail for that.

Over the weekend, I watched Top Gun Maverick and Cruella. The first of the two had excellent action scenes but it was a little over done. The second movie was awesome. Well done, cleverly written, comical, excellent character acting.

The photography in Top Gun was the best part for me... And seeing the behind the scenes, and all that went into it. It's the first movie I've seen in a long time that was unique in that regard.

I guess it had something to do with the $3 movie Saturday thing, but both Jaws & Start Trek II: The Wrath of Khan were in theaters this weekend.

I saw Wrath Of Khan last night and Jaws 3D tonight. I had seen Khan on the big screen when it came out and many time since in other formats ... but it was great seeing it again on the big screen.

I was too young to see Jaws in theaters when it came out, so enjoyed it on the big screen. I also saw the 3D showing. I normally dislike 3D movies as I usually find them to be gimmicky and distracting ... but Jaws was great in 3D because there were no gimmicks like thinks flying towards your face for no reason.

Both really good.
