Hah! I live in a shack. 1100' sq. No yard, no garage. We do have 2 BR and 3 baths, but the BRs are tiny. But I do love where we live.

No need to justify. Mountain people rip us as lesser all the time. "Flatlanders" is cute. I was about 10 seconds from a fight at the top of SkyPark once. :cautious:
 
You would think a 300 foot west facing slope in costal sage scrub would be sustainable. the brittle brush and chamise are well spaced But it pays off having reduced the sage below the crest where your back fence is located. The sea breeze driven fire ran fast and hot because there is good space between the plants allowing a rear fuel-air ratio. The photo shows nobody reduced the fuel below their fence.
