Couple sprinkles this morning in the east valley. I'm sure the overall humidity helps though.
Hopefully the big deluge comes in Friday night.

The Cedar Creek Fire in Oregon is now up to 64K acres and only 10 miles from Oakridge which is under a mandatory evacuation order. The Bunchgrass area has already burned. I have no idea how they predict this stuff but they are predicting containment on NOVEMBER 1st!! Hopefully the winds shift as expected tomorrow and Oakridge is spared. If you’ve never ridden there, you’ve been missing out on a true jewel.

Rode there yesterday, must have been before any evac order but smoke was already bad so I did a quick lap on Eula ridge and then gtfo. Rolled the dice on upper NUT and it was pretty clear. Smoke/haze seems to be widespread everywhere now. Had a good PNW going so can't really complain.

4 new lightning fires in Yosemite. Some are single tree the others are small.
I heard the rumbling, but was hoping no fires would get started.
I read the other day about fires in California. Can't remember the years, but average acres burnt each year was 4.5 million and the highest was 11 million.
I have to find out if it was true and how do they actually know. Somebody must be reading trees.

Some good news....updated Bobcat fire closure was recently released and the closure size has been reduced. This order is for one year, through 5/31/24 https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/angeles/alerts-notices/?aid=80638

This opens up some of the backside / Gabrielino area. Rim Trail and everything on the Darkside is still closed.

Gabrielino is open from Red Box to where it crosses 2N24 just below Newcomb Pass. I don't think it has been worked on east of West Fork CG though. I believe AC100 and a couple other groups had been working on the Gab closer to Red Box.

2N24 is still closed from West Fork to 2N31 (near Monrovia Peak), so the Gab east of West Fork is an out and back for now. But there are a few ride options back there now.

Whiskey fire 84 acres.
Looks like a 65 year old man from Whittier (where I was raised) was on his tractor clearing his property, lost his brakes and hit a few things which started the fire. His neighbor saw it all and pulled him out, but he died at the scene.

Sad.

Saw a forest service fire truck heading east with lights on on the 210 this morning.. As we approached ireindale exit saw the white smoke in Azusa. On the hillside just a bit west from the big A. Looked like it was quick and done as we headed back 90 minutes later. Could spot the fire trucks on the ridge above
