The coffee lover thread

I love my keurig and it's the most used appliance in our house, but I've become immune to the donut k-cups I've been drinking.

Any suggestions on something stronger?

My keurig sits in the closet. Only way I could get strong enough coffee was to use only the first half of the drip and pull the cup out. Rest was like tea and a waste. No matter what it was always a little stale if taste too.
The Nespresso machine is so much better thank Keurig. Fresher, stronger and have choices for strength.

Vietnamese style

peet's K cups from Costco... umm. strong enough and tasty..
Rossage.. brings me back to the days of the Tenderloin in SF.. the Vietnamese restaurants would serve you one of those automatically!

The wife and I just switched from a Nespresso to a super automatic. I was torn between a Jura machine and the Gaggia... Happy so far with the Gaggia, and my espresso consumption has easily doubled! :coffee::confused:

Damn automatics are too easy! Maybe a La Pavoni would have been healthier. :D

We stopped at Baby's in 1998 when the oldest was just a baby. I think they were at mile marker 15 at that time. It was hotter than hell, and they gave us a bunch of Baby's travel mugs filled with ice water for the baby. Neat group of guys sitting around, playing cards, drinking beer, and roasting some coffee...

So right. I feel lazy when I use the Jura. I truly enjoy grinding the beans, fine tuning the elements, steaming the milk, mixing, stirring, drinking. I will never get rid of my manual machine for this reason (Breville).

But that "latte" button on the Jura is pretty sweet. And then at the end, just as you are grabbing your cup to head to work, these words flash on the machine: "enjoy."

My maker died recently. About 30 years, and it was free from Gevalia, so I can't complain.
I started looking into what is the high rated maker currently. The cups aren't for me.
I learned the importance of the proper temp, blooming, filter paper, etc.
I went into it expecting a Mr Coffee, but changed my mind.
It was my birthday, so I made it my gift and asked for a Bonavita. We found it for about half off its list price.
I was poopooing the temp criteria, etc., but dang if it doesn't make an amazing cup o' joe!
I tout it to everybody now.

Are you talking about the "drip through" kind? One of my favorite treats in Oregon is to hit the street vendor in Eugene on a Saturday morning with their row of drip through cups lined up. :inlove:

It's a drip coffee maker, and it drips from multiple locations. It'll also prewet the grounds, which I haven't tried yet.
Also very fast. About 6 min. for a full pot.

I like Central American coffee.
Currently using some Costa Rican from Costco.

That's a pretty nice machine... Drip coffee gets a bad reputation, but can be awesome when it's done right. I'd be really surprised if you didn't notice a difference with pre-wetting. Report back... And drink up!

:coffee:

I'll probably lose my coffee lovers club card over this, but I've really come to like the Archer Farms coffees from Target. They've got a good selection of fair/direct trade options. My favorite for work is the pre-ground Nicaragua Las Mercedes medium roast. Then I usually keep a whole bean dark roast in the cupboard for mornings at home, when I don't mind taking a minute to grind it. Pair it up with my Aeropress and I'm in business!

Turn in your man card please...

Archer Farms only makes great potato chips.

Drink what you like! But, leave the card at the door, please. :p I can't say anything, though... I've tried just about every supermarket roast there is. I still go for the occasional dark roast from Trader's for the French Press.

I normally go for a darker roast than my wife likes for our espresso, but she did some research. This was big progress, as she was strictly a tea drinker since birth. She ordered the "Kona Blend" from Coffee Beans Direct, and I was pleasantly surprised. It makes a decent espresso or Americano for me, and she loves her morning espresso with a splash of milk. She may not ride bikes, but we can finally have coffee together. It only took three decades.

I still order the occasional bag from Baby's in Key West, and I'll pick up some http://www.tailoredcoffee.com/merch/ next time we're in Eugene. I've been in a lot of coffee shops, but their Ethiopian may just be the best I've ever had... served with a small seltzer and pulled perfectly. I got odd looks when I ordered 4 and told them to make them 10 minutes apart... The wife was shopping next door. :p

Bikes are fun. Coffee is awesome!
