I am very interested and will have a definite answer tonight. I am scheduled to do the Mammoth Gran Fondo the same day, but this sounds worlds more fun. I am just waiting on my wife to decide if she would rather camp in Mammoth or in Kernville. If I do the Plunge I will definitely camp and probably arrive Fri., for some riding maybe Just Outstanding and camp until Sun. afternoon. Beers and Whiskey always sound great with chilling/camping in the mountains.

It’s gonna be hot! I think it’s going to be Mammoth or Big Bear it’s looking like. And I know it’s cool up top of the plunge, but it’s hot for camping and riding other trails.

Right now it’s looking like a bonzai trip. Drive up early Saturday and home when done. I’ve done similar turnaround trips many times. Driving up Friday after work would work too. Not planning on staying Saturday night

Home... After lunch at the brewery!

We’ve done this twice before and it’s been fine both times...

Not half as bad as my 900 mile taco run in December. :D

I'm good with that either way. Only drawback with Friday is I'd figure the traffic will be awful well into the night getting through LA. Last time I was delayed by a detour avoiding fires, then sleeping in the heat near Kernville before, my thought was next time just treat it as a very long day trip since we didn't get much rest the night before anyway. I like Steve's idea to arrive at the eatery in time for breakfast.

But I'll put up happily either way and be delighted to ride Cannell again. That top section is just Southern Sierra XC gold.
