The Automobile Thread

On another note,... anyone notice there is a slow transition to big block style letters for the model name on the rear center of the vehicle? Toyota is doing it, VW is doing it, Nissan new models... Hyundai new models...

No more squinting and looking at the bottom left corner to see what that car is I guess....
Honda too, they are doing it on the Pilot model suv

I mail mine about three weeks before they're due. Check clears before anything is late, but the new tags arrive one to three weeks after the old ones expire. I could print the cancelled check and keep that with the reg, but there's so little traffic enforcement anymore that it's unlikely to be stopped just for having expired tags(as probable cause to stop you for other things, that's different). I see tons of random cars daily that have expired tags. Many expired last year or earlier including a coworker's. After six months it can be towed.

The seller of the Honda bike I bought last month luckily got it postmarked one day before they expired so I didn't have to cover late penalties. I did have to get replacement tags though because I transferred the title on the day the reg renewal was issued to him and I didn't want to rely on him forwarding them to me.

What $800!! Mine has never been that much. I just paid $450ish for mine and my truck is a 2019.

As J mentioned, personal plate fee, weight fee. My personal plate also has another fee to support the arts. (Not that I care about art, I just like the beach plate) Reg fee is based upon vehicle value, so my 2022 probably cost more. I think OC also has a fee or two added.

Then my late fee pushes it above $800.

Some departments have stopped enforcement of expired tags due to some people saying it's a quality of life issue. It used to be after 6 months, we towed the car. Some areas have also banned their police from making "pretext" stops as well. Of course they are clueless about how many really, really bad folks get caught that way. A few weeks ago, my son and his partner arrested a guy with FIFTY THOUSAND doses of fentanyl after an equipment violation stop.

My tag is expired. I paid the ridiculously expensive California fee ... it is just that I have not really been motivated to do the smog. :Roflmao
When cops are behind me I just roll down the window and hang my arm out. :whistling:

Was it tinted front windows?

So my 12 yo daughter had a sleepover at a friend's house before their orchestra / band / Knott's day today. I stopped by last night to drop off her overnight bag. This was parked out front...

Pagani Huayra BC Roadster - Yeah, I've never heard of it either. So I looked it up.

And I thought Bugattis were expensive.

Thing is, this guy also has a Koenigsegg in his garage. Look that up too.

I am still in shock. I'm not sure I will ever recover.

That car costs waaay too much money to be parked on the street. I am sure it cost the same or more than the house it’s parked in front of.
