Made me smile just to see that you exist and posted!

So I assume you worked for Mazda for a while?
Yes, 88-06. Mostly Product Support/Quality Assurance so we had to drive the cars that had customer complaints to verify issues and come up with resolutions. This car guy's dream job but kinda burnt me out and didn't do many of my own cars for quite awhile.

First business trip was the Miata pre-production ride/drive to iron out any last second kinks with the R and D guys, before full production started. We got to flog the Miata and some of it's peers through many big bear and arrowhead twistys. Great memories

Suz and I took a cruise up to Santiago Peak Saturday afternoon. She got to drive the new truck. It’s way more capable than I thought it would be.

I was disappointed to see that the Santiago Peak sign was gone.

I figured I’d put down my dad’s list. Try to find the theme in his daily drivers. This is someone who started driving when Eisenhower was President:

38 Chevy Coupe
68 Chevy C10
72 Chevy K5
88 Chevy K2500
03 Chevy K2500
15 Chevy Colorado

Now, I suppose we could throw in the motos & project vehicles (the project vehicle list is worthy of a tv show—the K5’s engine swap was legendary), but I’ve marveled at the daily driver consistency. Stick with what works for you.
OK, about my dad’s project vehicles: this story is worth sharing: last month he got cited by the city for parking a helicopter on his lawn.

Now, it wasn’t a helicopter, it was an airplane with the wings removed. and it was only on the lawn for an hour while he needed access to that corner of the garage. So the city waived the fine and just gave a warning. But that’s the kind of story I get when I go visit him.

Last year it was “Did you hear I bought another tractor?” Apparently he had an engine laying around from another project and it fit a 1950s Ford tractor.

One project I wish he’d finish: someone gave him an engine from an old Triumph Bonneville, and someone else gave him an old YZ490. He prefers 4-strokes.

Haha Jason. The LTD was grandpa's car and it came to me when he could no longer drive. I was a poor college student at the time and only transportation was the honda 400ss and fall was coming fast in Indiana. 11mpg land yacht but it was perfect condition and grandpa's pride and joy.
The LTD just reminded me of what would have been my first car. After my dad passed away, my mom decided to move us from Portland, OR to Bullhead City, AZ so we could live near her retired parents. When I turned 15, my grandfather bought me a '69 LTD with a 390. Being a retired Ford mechanic, the car ran as good as new but needed paint. Arizona is not kind to dark colored cars. I spent every day for what seemed like months, sanding and prepping it for paint. It was going to look awesome!
One day I came home from school and my car was gone. For whatever reason, my oldest brother decided he would take it to Vegas. I'm guessing his Jeep didn't get very good mileage. Well, he blew it up on his way home. Not sure how. I know he never had good luck with cars. Anyways, my grandfather wanted me to help pay for repairs. I was like WTF? I didn't blow it up!
I had the money as I was saving up for my first street bike but there was no way I was going to pay for something my irresponsible brother did. Don't really remember what happened to the car after that. All I know is I never looked back after buying my first street bike!

I watched the guys at work tow a semi with trailer up a dirt hill backwards yesterday with a ram diesel 4x. Mentioned they do it often on the semis that don't have two drive axles.
Them Rams got torque for days.

Then they to tow it out too.

Not to mention they go up steep muddy hills no problem, while I sit in the passenger seat all puckered....

Yeah, I was gonna ride up Maple to the peak, but heard some yahoo was gonna take his new truck up there - jk

More capable? You've had at least one Dodge before, right?
Or, are you talking about what that small diesel can do?

The bomb holes up at the peak had me concerned.....kinda like the ones on Main Divide before Bedford. The new truck handled them like a champ.

I hadn't driven up Maple Springs in my own vehicle in 20+ years. My '15 Ram never saw the dirt.

This is my 2nd baby diesel....the '15 has the Gen 2 EcoDiesel....the '22 has the Gen 3.

A couple handfuls of years ago for my birthday my wife got me a few laps around an autocross course in a 430 Spider. An autocross course is a pretty confining space for a Ferrari, but there was at least a straight where you could touch a little over 80 mph, so basically wring it out in 2nd gear and barely get into 3rd. Despite not being the ideal environment, it was my first time piloting a Ferrari, and a very rad occasion.

I’ll play, sort of…

Chevys
Fords
Benzs
BMWs
Porsches
Lexus’
Dodge Viper
Ferrari 430 Scud

Each always customized. No longer have interest in owning/driving exotics. Waiting to put an order on the new RX500h and LX600.

When I lived in Lake Isabella, my dad had a Lotus Esprit Turbo and a 911 Turbo, and on the back side of the lake there is a long straight and we pegged the Speedo on both cars and I got to do it in the Lotus . That was one the funnest times I’ve had with my dad.

With the end of my lease coming up, I've been contemplating what to do. I haven't completely fallen in love with my C-HR so not sure if I want to keep it. So, with gas prices continuously on the rise, I thought about getting something more economical. Like 28mpg isn't good enough, right?
Ironically, Thousand Oaks Toyota texted me a few days ago saying they want to buy me out of my lease. They say I have a ton of equity and I can use that to move into something else. I told them it would have to be a pretty dang good deal for me to give up my car. I leased it in the beginning of the pandemic and paid next to nothing. Right now, my C-HR is actually worth more than I paid for it.
So, I'm looking at a Corolla hatchback that gets an estimated 41mpg on the highway. It's the SE Nightshade Edition. We're going to take a look at it this weekend and see what kind of deal they're going to offer. You know how dealerships are. Anyways, here are a few pics.
