The Automobile Thread

With the end of my lease coming up, I've been contemplating what to do. I haven't completely fallen in love with my C-HR so not sure if I want to keep it. So, with gas prices continuously on the rise, I thought about getting something more economical. Like 28mpg isn't good enough, right?
Ironically, Thousand Oaks Toyota texted me a few days ago saying they want to buy me out of my lease. They say I have a ton of equity and I can use that to move into something else. I told them it would have to be a pretty dang good deal for me to give up my car. I leased it in the beginning of the pandemic and paid next to nothing. Right now, my C-HR is actually worth more than I paid for it.
So, I'm looking at a Corolla hatchback that gets an estimated 41mpg on the highway. It's the SE Nightshade Edition. We're going to take a look at it this weekend and see what kind of deal they're going to offer. You know how dealerships are. Anyways, here are a few pics.

GR is the correct answer: https://www.toyota.com/upcoming-vehicles/grcorolla/

Exactly though this isn't a desirable car and they have 10 in inventory. The nice thing is I've done most everything through texting. All I have to do is walk in and say yes or give them the middle finger. Worst case, I walk out perfectly happy with my 2020 C-HR with 20k miles on it.
For sure! 30 years ago, I would be all over this or the Supra.

No tense like the present!

My thought exactly when I read it. And impressive they can get 300 ponies out of 1.6l motor.

Although I'm kinda like UPSed now. Have a high power sports car, absolutely love driving it but am becoming more sedate in my vehicle desires these days. More I think about it, the more I figure I don't need it and should downgrade. But then......I drive the dang thing and fall in love with twin turbos all over again! Oh the conundrum....

Drive softer; ride harder.

So, the car I was looking at has already been sold. Maybe they're more popular than I thought? They have another white one coming in in a couple of weeks. Anyways, they just got this one in....

It's a 2022 and only has 3,300 miles on the odo and comes with a 7-year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty. I wonder if they'd just do a straight swap? :whistling::D
I did a little research on the GR. It's actually based off this car. It's really tempting but at $40-50k, it's a little much so close to retirement. Maybe if I gave up mountain biking it would be an easier pill to swallow? Says the guy who spent close to $50 on a pickup for his wife....:Roflmao

GR is going to be hard to get. They created artificial scarcity by saying they are going to produce limited amounts. Expect a lot of people to pay over MSRP and then store them.

Toyota lied, they are NOT going to be an enthusiast car.
I looked it up over the weekend. It could be a bitchin car. Looks like ultimately it will come with an 8-speed auto though? Not a deal-breaker for me as I have no use for that type of car.
I test drove the Corolla hatchback on Saturday. Fortunately for me they had just gotten in a 2022 with 3300 miles. Perfect. The sales guy handed me the fob and said, have fun! I guess he didn't need to ride with me? I took it for a quick spin around the block just to get an idea of whether I would like it or not. I did! It has plenty of power and in sport mode it feels, well, sporty. I was able to crank it into a couple of turns and it responded instantly. I was a little impressed. Power is down a bit from the FR-S but it feels a whole heck of a lot faster than my C-HR. Not that any of that matters. It has an EPA estimate of 41mpg. I averaged 38mpg in my FR-S on a regular basis with a heavy foot. If I get at least that in the Corolla then every 4th tank of gas will be free compared to the C-HR.
Now to the deal. I told him I will not pay a markup and do not want to pay any more per month than I'm paying now. Their first offer was $100 more per month. I was rather upset and they could see it. They tell me, this is just a start. I said no, you come back with what we had talked about and we have a deal otherwise I'm leaving now and we can stop wasting each others time. They came back a few minutes later with an offer that was a dollar more than I'm paying now. I asked if they were serious? You couldn't knock off one more dollar? They kind of laughed and said no. I graciously accepted their offer. Looking at the numbers they gave me the car at MSRP and gave me full pop for my C-HR. I was perfectly happy with that.
The used car market is insane. The one I test drove has a Kelley Blue Book value of $30,000! I paid considerably less than that for a brand new car. Anyways, I should have the car within the next month or two. I'm rather excited about it.

Does that mean you get to keep your C-HR for another two months, or, did they keep it?
$30k for a used Corolla, that's f'n nuts.

Mine took 3 weeks to get from Sterling Heights, MI to the dealer.
Luckily I am not in a hurry. Actually wish it was a few weeks later. I'm traveling for just shy of a month two weeks after I take delivery, and it'll just be sitting there. Oh well, hard to complain.

Of course with all this equity talk, I keep wondering if the Jeep will be worth more than I paid for it and if I should just sell it right away :Roflmao

I don't live too far away from Hungry Valley OHV Park. I could break it in for you?
I had a customer that took delivery of a new Bronco a few months ago. He sold it a day later. I was like WTF? He made an instant $20k!

Took this in on trade recently. It has 166 miles on it, and had been PDI'd (tech inspection and process cars go through after arriving at dealerships from the port) just 48 hours before. The owner had purchased it without consulting his wife, and she hated it when she saw it. The next day he was at our store trading it in on a Q8. You can imagine the bath he took.

I’d love to have one of those, but I’d be in the same boat with my wife.

Stumbled upon a Volvo car show the other day. This gun metal grey 1970 1800E was quite a piece. Talked with the owner who has owned it since 1973. I’ve never been a fan of Volvo but this one was interesting. The only car in the lineup I had any interest in.

A friend of mine in Santa Monica had like 4 of those in various states of running/not running. Would see him in a different color Volvo often. Sadly, he passed some years ago to cancer.
