The Automobile Thread

I like the CRV and I like that color. I test drove a Sonic Gray hybrid one. About the only thing I didn't much like was the CVT transmission, but I realize it's there for a reason. I went ahead and ordered a Ford Raptor...again.

CJ and I bought a Honda CR-V here in Arkansas (Yeah, I know, it's not an Audi, Porsche, or any your fancy schmancy cool cars). Bought early in January. The dealership had a total of 1 car on the lot in the class we were seeking. We went to lunch and told them we would think about it. 45 minutes later they called and said they sold it. :gotnothing: (He did call us and warn us but we thought they were just posturing us. lol! Nope!)

In fact all the dealerships we have been to have one maybe two cars on the lot. The Fayetteville Subaru has only test drive vehicles and then they order every car purchase. All of them out here have had to add some Dealership upgrades to overcome the selling price of used vehicles. Kinda like paying premium above used car prices. It's ridiculous!

So we had to order our car and it's "supposed" to be here mid March some time. Yeah... Wow.

We ordered it in Sonic Grey Pearl. This is just a random pic off the Webbie.

We are expecting gas to hit $5/gal for low grade here soon

I paid $4.999 for premium yesterday. This is for my weekend fun car so a tank will last a month or more.

My CRV, i don't really pay attention to fuel cost as it's a company car and think it was about 4.50 gal regular Friday. But I do get 33.4 mpg for 396 miles per tank, so there is that. Not to mention it's a really good mid size suv.

Bottom line is fuel goes up and down in price and been the same as long as I can recall. Electric cars? Seriously thought about getting one, but just don't have the patience to sit at a charger for an hour every 5 days or so, just to degrade the battery because that's what fast charging does.

Great....and my current truck has a 26 gallon tank.....the truck on order has a 33 gallon tank. This is gonna hurt.
I sure miss the days of putting more miles on my bike than my truck. Thought about getting a little van that could serve dual purpose but used are costing way more than new and new ones have a 6-8 month wait. Now looking at maybe getting half ton with the 3.0L Duramax that supposedly gets about 30mpg on the highway. I’m just not a car guy, I like trucks.

I'm sure I've already paid for my Costco membership this year by getting gas there. Save about $10/tank.
Worth waiting in line a bit or going after hours.

Adjust for inflation, and the price of go-go juice is pretty stable over time: https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/gasoline-prices-adjusted-for-inflation/
How much is your time worth? Driving 10 miles each way and getting frustrated in a 20 minute line to save even $10 doesn’t make sense to me. And Costco’s prices don’t seem any better than the discount stations.

I always wait to cross the border to fill up when we head to AZ. $3.29 per gallon for regular at the Chevron in Yuma.

Oh, I hear you, and have thought on that plenty. But I don't mind going after hours, so zip over at 8:30 while all good people are asleep and dreaming. For the fleet, the family saves $10 every two weeks per car/$20 a month/5 cars in the family/$100 a month/$1,200 a year... I mean yeah, I could just eat it, but at this point that $1,200 would buy me at least a couple of tires for a bike and a bottle of Stan's, right!

As for time/money... I mean, I spent the last two days sunup to sundown working on my daughter's car. New shocks/struts/control arms/engine mounts. $600 in parts, and probably saved at least $1,500 in labor doing it myself. Could/should I have paid someone to do it... yeah, I guess I. But I'd rather burn the time and do it myself.
Beats riding a bike.

Well, today was supposed to be new Truck Day.......

View attachment 80667

but the dealer decided that at after 9 weeks of me waiting for my custom order to come in that they basically were going to charge me $15,000 over sticker.

Needless to say, today is not new Truck Day. Hopefully in less than 9 weeks truck #2 will show up for New Truck Day.

Well after I told the first dealer they could shove this truck up their collective asses...

Truck #2 was ordered from Dealer #2.

Truck #1 took 5 weeks to get on the schedule to be built. Truck #2 only took 5 days to get on the schedule to be built.

Truck #2 will be born on 3-25.

Well, if you want to really feel the pain, try tanking up with marine gas. Premium unleaded with up to 10% ethanol might be $3.49 here now at Costco... but the ethanol free marine gas at the marina is $5.50 per gallon. My boat has a 40 gallon tank, so I save $80 per fill if I bring 5 gallon cans to Costco and fill up the boat with Costco gas (after I add gas stabilizer to protect against ethanol). I can put up with a lot of manual labor to save $80 :) The credit card benefits I don't even remember :)

What!?!? I thought you had the Tesla speed boat!!! ;);)

North West Arkansas is running as little as $2.83 per gallon for Gas... and Diesel as low as $3.15 per gallon. I'm saving on average about $45 bucks every time I fill up compared to back in California.
They don't have Costco's in North West Arkansas so I replaced Costco with Bass Pro Shop.
:whistling:;)

Regarding Tesla drivers.. whenever I’m driving my wife’s I most certainly blast past the yahoos getting on the freeway going 35mph in ICE at a good clip since it goes 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. I see plenty of MB and BMW drivers crawling onto freeways in addition to the rest. Still waiting for BMW to install blinkers on their cars too, what’s up with that?

I’ve also used a super charger/fast charging a total of once since we got it back in August, and that was just to try it out with free credits before our adapter arrived the first weekend we had it. It charges at night in the garage on a 220v, so if you have a garage and actually use it as intended to park vehicles it’s as easy as plugging it in at night, or every few nights. We went from $500+ a month in gas to adding ~$120 to our electricity bill.

Yes, I still drive a 4Runner but for someone who is going to be doing a lot of city driving like my wife does with all the kid drop offs and pick ups EVs make sense. We’ve done several long weekend trips to San Diego where we don’t even charge it, or we park at the entrance of legoland and charge at the free charging ports that are 50 yards from the gate.
