The Automobile Thread

I’ve also used a super charger/fast charging a total of once since we got it back in August, and that was just to try it out with free credits before our adapter arrived the first weekend we had it. It charges at night in the garage on a 220v, so if you have a garage and actually use it as intended to park vehicles it’s as easy as plugging it in at night, or every few nights. We went from $500+ a month in gas to adding ~$120 to our electricity bill.

My wife's car has unlimited free supercharger use... but we almost never use it. In SoCal we had a 50 amp 220 circuit that she could charge to full every night in a few hours. Plus we had solar so it was close to free. Here in NC we plug into the wall and get 110 on probably a 15 amp circuit... and she charges like 6 miles of range per hour of charging :) It's laughable. But she doesn't drive daily so it isn't any big deal.

Just going to say we drove her car from SoCal to NC in late June with minimal drama. 800 miles per day, free charging, and I would say the charging stops added about one hour of travel time per day versus gas. The biggest issue is that we were routed south through El Paso / central Texas which in late June was a blast furnace and we burned a lot of range running the A/C. Since we did that drive they have added several superchargers in Arkansas around Ft. Smith and you can do the much more pleasant ride through the middle of the country.

El Paso is officially the nastiest / ugliest looking place I have ever been on this planet.

I have though. I'm trying to get you to disclose, publicly, without offending genuine Americans, what it is exactly that you dislike about those locations.
poverty is not, and never was pretty. Most genuine Americans are grateful that our forefathers had the good sense to move away from ugly poverty. (Other genuine Americans wish their forefathers hadn’t been brought here involuntarily, but oh yeah this is a car thread.)

I came from a place that people called a hole and made fun of. I agree it wasn’t much to look at. Maybe we were rednecks with some backward ideas - but - they were good people who worked hard and helped each other. It was a good place to grow up. I loved it.
…. Something, something, something… book by its cover.
Just a thought

Exactly this.

We must find the good in everything, everwhere. and every situation. Its there if you look.

Paid $3.85 for the van last partial fill up. I say partial because Arco only lets me pump $100 on my card so I only get a full tank if I fill up around half a tank. 35 gallons of diesel. Usually lasts me a couple of weeks though, as I only drive Wednesday to ride after work, and on the weekends to go ride.

I haven't ridden my motorcycle in a couple months I think, can't think of a use for it. I guess maybe I should get a battery tender for it...or just move it to my GF's and "force" myself to ride it.

keep thinking about how badly do I want to put a bike rack on the motorcycle, or buy a motorcycle that is more suitable for a bike rack. And, is it worth it? Gas in the current bike is barely cheaper than the can since it gets like 35 MPG, but with premium.

I sure miss the days of putting more miles on my bike than my truck. Thought about getting a little van that could serve dual purpose but used are costing way more than new and new ones have a 6-8 month wait. Now looking at maybe getting half ton with the 3.0L Duramax that supposedly gets about 30mpg on the highway. I’m just not a car guy, I like trucks.
The aerodynamics of Chevy 3.0l Duramax gets about 1-2 miles better per gallon than GMC in the 3.0L Dmax. GMC has nicer styling tho. Jason's Dodge Ram has coil springs in the back vs. Chevy with leaf springs rides much nicer but may sway more if towing. My '06 Chevy Silverado 6.0l Vortex Max has nearly 200,000 miles with peeling paint and gets 15 mpg. city and is my daily driver. I'm waiting for a catastrophic failure that may not happen for some time to justify a new truck. The Chevy Silverado 3.0l Dmax gets about 28 mpg. not towing. ** Some Chevy Silverado 4x4's do not have a 2 speed 4 x 4 transfer case where 2 speed Hi and Low 4 x 4 settings are standard in GMC trucks.

I was referring to the complete and total lack of anything green. I didn't even see weeds or cacti. Just rocks and sand, and everything covered with a thick layer of grey dust.
I actually get a similar response to the pics I send of local and SW riding to friends across the world and in the Eastern US. The lack of trees in general is mind boggling to them.

Yeah I hear ya on the GM reliability. My 05 2500HD with 6.6L duramax has been a fantastic truck and I'm sure it has lots of life left in it. I have done literally nothing to it other than oil, fuel & air filter changes. All the driving I'm doing these days in crappy traffic is what's got me thinking about going with a half ton with more creature comforts that gets better mileage. 3/4 ton HD trucks are no fun on LA freeways. I already have a couple guys that have offered me 20K for my 05 which seems crazy to me. Fact is though the new ones ain't cheap and I can buy a hell of a lot of diesel and keep driving mine for now.

So, automobiles. I sold this fine specimen a couple weeks back. This was actually a custom build/special order. 10 months from the day the order went in to delivery. For those that follow Audi, this has the Dynamic Ride Control, and is the first car I've experienced with it. I'm pretty sold.
