HOCKEY IS BACK!!!!!

Blast from the past.. unfortunately I broke my collar bone before our final all star game that year.

The Ducks were eliminated from the playoffs just in the last couple of days. And here I thought they were out of it a month or so ago.
Bring on the off-season.
Oh, and some guy named Getzlaf is retiring.

Looks like the Avs found a way to slip past those mighty Kings this evening... :whistling:

GKG...
Yeah, I watched some of the first period and could tell a beating was coming. My Kings have overachieved and are missing most of their D, were playing the 2nd night of a back-to-back… Lots of excuses. Avs looked so good while missing some key players… Damn! That’s such a good team.

As has been brought up before - I am not sure how this year's Avs will stack up against the Eastern Conf teams down the stretch (or even that pesky Dallas team that seems to have their number), but I know they CAN win 16 post season games - let's see if they do. Maybe the Kings will beat them in the first round.

Bad luck to all of you's that made it to the post season. I must refrain from any form of bragging about The New York Rangers in fear of jinxing their playoff run. First post season appearance in 5 years if I am correct. LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!

I fear the Rangers. They be lookin' STRONG!

Go Avs!

The playoffs are a different type of game, none of that will be relevant in a 7 game series.
Oh - you mean like this?

Avs v Flames Playoff.png

Like I said - at the risk of jinxing it - the Avs haven't had much trouble with the Flames in regular season or recent playoffs. The AVs struggle with easier teams like Dallas. And the Kraken - to whom they lost a couple of nights ago.

History has nothing to do with this season. :Roflmao

Daryl Sutter knows how to coach a team in the playoffs. You’ll see.

How did the flames do in those playoffs? I genuinely don't know. I guess I can Google it.

OK - I Googled it...
Flames Playoff Record 2016-2021.png

And how do you win 50 games in a season and lose in the first round? Who the hell beat them in that 2019 season in the first round (4-1)?

Oh - and:
Sutter's playoff record is .524
Bednar's is .558

But yes - Sutter has won MANY more playoff games and series as a coach than has Bednar. Like I said - I am not dumb enough to claim that the Avalanche will win the Stanley Cup - but I can root for them to do so! And since we spilled blood on this thread, the Avs will probably lose to the Flames, and you can feel validated and scream I TOLD YOU SO!

Or the Avs will lose to the Rangers. And @Redman can say I TOLD YOU SO!

Darryl just became the coach for the Flames 3/21. They have quietly acquired several key role players that have won Stanley Cups (some for him with the Kings). Players that actually know how to win deep in the playoffs when the game tightens up defensively and everyone checks.

GKG!

Sutter was the Flames coach last time they had any real playoff success in 2004. He took a team with minimal high end talent and turned it into a machine. I was still living in Calgary then, that was a great year watching an unexpectedly long playoff run.

This time around they have a lot more skill. But players like Johnny have not really been showing up in the playoffs. If that continues the Flames won't go anywhere. Sutter has the ability to get the best out of his teams though and that can change everything. They have the goaltending and all the pieces. If they can put it all together, they could go far.

Colorado is really in the same place. They've made the second round the last three years and missed the playoffs many seasons before that. But they also have all the pieces, and could go far if they can finally get it together.

It would be an awesome battle to watch if these two teams meet. Don't think it can happen til 3rd round if I understand the playoff format correctly.

The Avs are gearing up for the playoffs by losing three in a row! :bang:

It's a brilliant strategy in two ways.
1.) Statistically, you aren't going to win them all, so you might as well get some losses now.
2.) All the other teams will drop their guard and say "see, CO is not a playoff team..."

Right? :whistling: o_O

So now my beloved Avs have dropped 6 of their last 8 games. I'm so proud!

Round 1 against Predators Tuesday May 3. Let's Go Avs! Wake up and play!

I will be at Game 3 on Friday thanks to some great thinking by the better half. :D

It has been a couple years since I have made it out to a game, but stoked to see this seasons LA Kings in action against some generational talent in a game that matters. It is going to be good to see Brownie in another playoff series. Feels like his 1k game was just yesterday, not almost 5 years ago. I hope he’s able to deliver a couple points in this series. I don’t expect it to be a short or winning series, but will be happy to see the Kings stretch it out to 6 games.

GKG!

Do what you can to pester Mike Smith!

It's not always a good thing to blow a team out in game 1. Just sayin'
Agreed. I am forever a cautious fan. I hope for the best and expect less than that. You'll never see chest thumping and bold claims about "the best" this and "dominate" that from me. I'll leave that to @DangerDirtyD and @Redman.

That said - I can still say "Let's Go Avs - 15 to go!"

Reading the 5 pages in this thread and your last post leads me to believe you’ve been shaking the secret hand of the snake. No bold claims about “the best,” eh, but several mentions of who had the most points, top of the standings, No.1 seed, etc. Are you a little bit insane or are you so afraid of failure that you’re caught up in your safety net and can’t see reality through your sandbag? C’mon Herzie. Put yourself out there once in a while. It’s ok if you’re not never wrong.

edit: GKG!

ok, i'll chime in... Rangers played like a cup winning team in the 1st period. Then fell into mediocrity after the start of the 2nd. The refs gave that game to Sydney... I mean the penguins. Three bad calls by refs to give the pens a powerplays. No icing called by refs multiple times on the pens. Our 3rd period goal (to take the lead) was a good goal, shouldn't have been called back. In the end the pens deserved to win...IN OVERTIME. They played better than us and were much more energized than us. We have a young team with lots of players that have little to no playoff experience. No excuses though. Shesterkin was the wall he is known to be, its our defense that struggles in front of him. How we play game two tomorrow night we determine the series outcome.

I think that third period goal should have been disallowed in the regular season, but the playoffs require a little more grit and therefore a goalie who should be able to maintain his position. You wanna cross the crease, you get a paddle and a blocker to the face. Floppy goalies are for soccer.
