HOCKEY IS BACK!!!!!

UNBELIEVABLE performance by Stars goalie Oettinger to stop 60 shots - but alas, Calgary finally got one past him in OT.

So now we have the battle of Alberta and the battle of Florida in the next round. Wheeeee!

And Johnny Hockey sends the Stars home.
Is that Johnny Gaudreau? I was so happy that he was the one to get the GW in OT. He was spectacular and was denied over and over again by an out-of-this-world performance by Stars goalie Oettinger.

Holy smokes that was stressing. Bye Bye Cindy! Soooo... who saw the questionable goal by Guentzel? Above or below the cross bar? I knew as soon as it went to review what the call was gonna be, and I was right. Wound up mattering not. Letang trying to make himself bleed after a high stick from Panarin. Wound up matterin not. Pittsburgh has a strategy unlike any other team in the league. To cheat and stretch the boundaries of the rules as far as possible. So much stalling by them after they ice the puck, the refs go along w/ it. Countless hacks, slashes, crosschecks, face rubs, etc. that the refs act like they dont see. I know it's playoff hockey and to be expected. But, Pittsburgh does it all season long, for years now. Haha, doesn't matter, we won in OT at home. LET GO RANGERS!!!!

TBH, I'd say we got lucky. But, every single Rangers fan will take it. Carolina is no joke, we got a big task in front of us. Game 1 Wednesday night! LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!

Yep, got that nickname before being drafted or so.
Won the Hobey Baker as best college player.

Yeah - what the hell was that? 9-6? Sounds like a Colorado Rockies baseball score.
Oh well - South Alberta takes game 1 over Central Alberta.
A series victory by Edmonton would further legitimize the Kings, but I'm rooting for Darryl Sutter on this one, more so that for Toffoli and Lucic, and definitely more than Tkachuk.

Funny story: After the Kings lost game 6 at home, a game attended by my coworker, he ran into Mike Smith and what we perceive to be his friends/family (definitely not Oilers players) having dinner at the Yardhouse Restaurant next door to the Staples Center (yes, Staples Center). Seems rather casual if you ask me, but I suppose it could be true.

Well you have to agree this was more exciting than watching Stars/Oilers or Flames/Kings or especially Stars/Kings would have been.

About the only thing we didn't see was a goalie brawl, but that could still happen if Smith is back in for game 2.

Pretty fun game to watch.

Why the disdain for the Leafs?
Haha, well since you asked. Toronto is the self-proclaimed cultural, financial and well, "everything" capital of Canada. The national media which is all based in Toronto loves to remind (inform?) the rest of the country of that constantly. Watch Hockey Night in Canada, which has had double headers for decades, and one of those games televised nationally is almost always the Leafs, fanboy commentators included. You get sick of hearing about the team constantly as if the media assumes everyone is a fan. And then there is their insufferable fanbase. The team wins a few games and they are planning the Stanley Cup parade. So fans of other teams naturally take great satisfaction in seeing them lose. Best if they miss the playoffs. The next best is seeing them bounced in the first round. Ultimate satisfaction is their 50+ year streak of no Cups continuing. Buh bye leafs!!

Ah thank you for the back story. A team the rest of the nation loves to hate.

So does the Tragically Hip's "50 Mission Cap" have some meaning relative to that? I never understood what the hell it means. But then - I view the "Hip" the same way that you describe the "love" for the Leafs. I am not a fan.

Didn't think so but had to google it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifty_Mission_Cap Tl/dr the song is the story of Bill Barilko who scored a goal in OT that won the Stanley cup for the Leafs, but disappeared in a plane crash soon after that. The crash site wasn't found for many years, and the Leafs didn't win another cup until that year.

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. In this case, later than any other team in the Stanley cup playoffs. Colorado finally lost a game. The Blues were well coached tonight and baffled the AVs with a 4 man front and one defender. Never seen that myself. It worked.

On to St. Louis. Let's see if Coach Bednar can figure something out.

Thought you were describing the Oilers for a second.

Wow...I just watched the extended highlights of last nights Oilers vs Flames game. McDavid put on a clinic and made the Flames defenders look silly. Even when he was being held, he was able to get off a pass one handed which led to a goal. He later juked 3 separate Flames and nearly had a goal before running into the Flames goalie leading to a goalie interference call. It *was* the right call but props the NHL for making a call against a superstar player. The unscrupulous NBA lets their superstar players do essentially anything they want. One of 650 reasons I despise the NBA but I digress.

I liked it as I was reading, then the diss, so unlike. But hockey is funner, so…

McDavid and a couple other Oilers definitely made the Flames pay for their mistakes. As much fun as game 1 was, game 2 was a lot closer to what playoff hockey should be.

The best player on the Panthers so far tonight is Andrew Brunette. The fans may start throwing objects onto the ice. Fun game. Lets go Jumbo Joe!

Brunette shoulda put Jumbo Joe out there on the PP in the last 2 minutes of the game.

Re: Avs v Blues: Rantanen shoulda left the puck on the goal line and skated away.
