Bike Part Availability & Prices

Ooooh! Didn't know that. I'll check the XT. Send me a pic of where that switch is on your shifter.

Just went to take a photo of the switch. A small silver spot on the underside of the shifter. Interesting, it's not there on the warranty replacement shifter, and I don't have a photo of the prior one.

However, there is a small dot/round area on the cover, so I'm guessing it might be under the bottom cover if they didn't remove it completely. My curiosity is piqued, so I may pop it off and check. I not convinced 12 speed is that great of an upgrade so....

Excellent use of "piqued." Most people miss that!

And I agree. 12 speed has been nothing but problems and disappointment for me - other than the gear range at the upper end of the cassette. But you don't need 12 speeds to have that range. Just cut out one of the useless gears and broaden the spacing. Like 9th or 10th gear. I am guessing I never ride in those cogs.

I agree....12 speed is a waste....just cut 11 of those gears away and just pedal your bike....I guarantee you can do it.

Riiiiight... always pushing the single speed life. No thank you. I like my full squish and "adjustable on the fly" gear ratios. Not enough life left in this life to punish myself with things that will make me "better."

I agree! Having ridden single speed Schwinn bikes the first 15 years of my life, I can say is "gears are good" :)

That said, I keep dropping gears. My first real mountain bike was a 3 x 9. Next was a 2 x 11. I now have a 1 x 12... and even that feels a little much. 1 x 10? 1 x 6? Definitely dropping the front derailleur was a huge improvement.

I found a NEW SRAM GX 10-50t Eagle cassette!
…At least there was no indication the item is back ordered on the check-out page. Hoping for the best…

I went ahead and panic-bought one... cassettes are this year's Kirkland poop-paper!

Frame delivery update v.September, shop contacted the manufacturer and is expecting them to be shipped in 2-3 weeks time. Said manufacturer is "fairly sure" of holding those dates. Given that expected delivery started with the end of July I'm "fairly sure" I'll be asking for another update in October

I started about 7 months back hoarding bike parts, planning ahead for the day I need and most likely can’t find. Currently my inventory is E thirteen 9-50 cassette, chain, chainring, 3 sets brake pads, couple shifter cables, 2 sets new tires plus a few old but not worn out, cable housing, and other used but great condition parts like grips, pedals, handlebars, wheelset.
Dang! I should just buy another frame.

Gee, once again I get to share how flawless my 12 Speed XT Shimano kits are on both my Hightower and Hardtail. But I’m positive I’m mistaken based on what people here… oh, never mind! :p

I hope you find shift utopia amigo!

Yes - to this point in my MtB life, Shimano shifting has been flawless and sublime. But as I've stated and documented in the J's Garage thread, I cannot get this system working correctly to save my life. And neither can the master @mtnbikej. I maintain that the introduction of a 12th cog into the mix was a step too far for Shimano in terms of performance and reliability. Glad yours is flawless.

Make that 4. I have XTR 12 speed on one bike and XT on another and both have worked flawlessly.
Clearly you all are outliers and mine is the norm! o_O

I think maybe you all just don't shift very often. :cautious:

But even if mine is the only one experiencing problems, I still maintain that those of us who use derailleurs don't need 12 cogs.
