So this was posted on Reddit today as a ride through Blackstar Canyon. Now, the 200 or so times I’ve ridden BS I have yet to find a trail that leads to this. Maybe a closed off trail that ends at Irvine lake it seems? Anyone know how this person arrived at this spot?

What time?Anyone interested in the Santa Ana's from the west side (Harding or Maple) to try to catch some snow on Saturday Feb 25th weather permitting? Thinking of the peak if weather and fortitude permit.
I'm out. I'd have to be home with breakfast by then. Have a safe ride!I'd aim for 9AMish, but if there's bands of rain at low altitudes would try to schedule around them until we got above the snow line.
Looks like the storm will be hanging on through Sat. more than I expected so I'm changing the date to Sunday Feb. 26, probably about 9AM. Start at Maple Springs if the storm impacts don't close the canyon. Planning to go up to the snow until it becomes impassable. Might try to descend Motorway if the snow doesn't make Main Divide unridable.

The gate is approx. 1,850. The water crossing are fun when filled with ice cubes.I think... That's about the bottom of Motorway.
Good luck, Bill...
I can see the snow below the cloud layer from my place right now. I'd say its down to at least 3000ft.Looks like the storm will be hanging on through Sat. more than I expected so I'm changing the date to Sunday Feb. 26, probably about 9AM. The last time I saw it this low @Faust29, @Grego, @Trailslayer and I were dumb enough to go to 4 corners. Whilst it was epic up there - we had the same plans as you, try for Motorway - I won't be rushing out to repeat what I think ended up being a good 3mile+ hab to 4 corners. There was no way we could continue along main divide, we ended up walking a fair way back down the road before we could even "ride". I use that term loosely, it was more akin to watching my 3 year old on his balance bike.
If you strike snow by the time you get to the first guardrail then I wouldn't be trying for 4 corners unless you want to walk a lot.

@Lost Kiwi was riding a 26" praying mantis looking contraption from something like 1995. So not everyone had big wheels! On the plus side, he has since come into the 21st century. You guys and your double suspension rigs with the bigger wheels…smh
Your description of his bike gave me a good laugh!@Lost Kiwi was riding a 26" praying mantis looking contraption from something like 1995. So not everyone had big wheels! On the plus side, he has since come into the 21st century.
How rude! The Whyte is from 2001, its the Proflex which is a '95*@Lost Kiwi was riding a 26" praying mantis looking contraption from something like 1995. So not everyone had big wheels! On the plus side, he has since come into the 21st century.

WOW! When making references to a Kiwi, NEVER use Australia!Yes, but....the Whyte looks like it came out of Mad Max. Not saying that's a bad thing...

You gotta be careful. Using Australia as a reference to a Kiwi is like using California as a reference to an Arizonian or a Texan, which will get you shot at.It was a reference to a movie and its look/style/world. Not Australia or NZ specifically.
I've been to Oz three times. Never to NZ, but I still know the difference.
I can even tell the difference in accent between English, Irish, Australian, and New Zealander.
Heck, I can pick out a Filipino speaking English blindfolded. Never mind Indian v Pakistani.
I hate to say it but @herzalot's prediction might be correct. I've never seen it this low. Apologies for the poor picture but the cloud and rain eased briefly enough to snap this 15 minutes ago down at Foothill Ranch town center. I think you'd strike snow before you even hit Cadillac right now if you went up STT.Looks like you'll get to the 2000' level. Maybe.
Got a good view of Pleasants Peak this morning and the snow went way way down.I hate to say it but @herzalot's prediction might be correct. I've never seen it this low.
