Yikes - sorry to hear about them shingles. Sounds painful. Heal up brother! With continued long hours at work and entering my sixth week of a shingles outbreak it's getting increasingly harder for me to get off the couch and ride. Once I decide which bike to ride I'll probably do something short and local.

Yikes. Glad it wasn’t worse. I’m sure you will take good care of her.Well good news, she didn’t break anything according to the nurse trainee helper lady she saw this afternoon ...
Story goes like this. She had her leg up on the bathroom countertop shaving her legs and dropped something. Quickly went to pick it up with said leg still on countertop and biffed it. Says she felt a good pop in her hip with an immediate dose of pain. Last night was not pleasant. Can’t put much weight on it let alone walk. Doc helper trainee person said it was probably dislocated and popped back in and now it’s just neurological/muscular pain. They gave her crutches so I’ll be careful what I say within swinging range. That said I might ride tomorrow...
Thanks Chris. Sadly the desire to climb anything is just dwindling away.Yikes - sorry to hear about them shingles. Sounds painful. Heal up brother!
PS: when you say “something short” it usually involves over 5000’ of climbing.
I used to think I was tough. Shingles is like a continuous kick in the nuts with the worst sunburn you could imagine. And that's on a good day. I generally heal overnight. This is a 1-2% better a day thing.@UPSed: Sorry to hear it! That’s not the kind of suffering I want to hear about from you. I hope you get out of the weeds soon, tough guy.
FWIW I hear it’s better to get shingles while you’re young(and you’re still young IMO) than when you’re old. Thanks Chris. Sadly the desire to climb anything is just dwindling away.

Heading your direction. You'll be already riding by the time we get there.Trying to get motivated...

I’m guessing $4,000 to meet my current “out of pocket maximum.” Then I could pursue those additional surgeries for free to make me look like some of the hotties in that other thread and claim it is for my emotional health. How much would it have cost back then with a PPO?

Ouch! I think a compromised immune system is the gateway for shingles.I got shingles shortly after I got my right collarbone plated. They "say" it was from the stress of surgery. Not fun... Sorry to hear @UPSed
Color me SHOCKED that you are the kind of guy who does that.I think if you get a gig at Starbucks they have a health insurance plan that can help with your trans dreams? And probably pays for some psych. My brothers son, I mean daughter did it with some help from Starbucks.

The southern part of this route is new to me, little-used forest "roads" (?). Expecting wildlife, it's where I caught the bear on vid. Reverse route to finish or jump on the Bikeway which essentially follows the freeway. First ride with revised gearing on the singlespeed, dark start. It's ~23 mi N-S, netting 5k' ascent.

They absolutely are. The simplicity...Those single speeds are habit forming!
