The Movie Thread...

Speaking of movies... I've got a date with a princess, a scoundrel, a farm boy, and a bickering married couple on Friday!
Anybody else braving the madness to see TFA on Thurs or Friday? I remember the feeling 35 years ago when I got to see Empire on the first day and how magical that was for me at 10 years old. Taking my kid to see in Thursday, hopefully will be as good!

Gonna do a late night showing on Saturday night.

Same thing.....remember waiting in line all day at the Cinedome in Anaheim for Empire.

I totally remember that day, going and seeing it with my mom. Good sport she was for sure!

I'm seeing it locally on day of release, but hope to get out to the Newport Big Screen and see it there in a week or so. LOVE that theater!

I remember seeing episode 4 with my mom and dad when I was little at the New Angola Theater, and Empire when it came out a few years later... I always wondered what the old theater looked like. o_O

I'm probably for the most part, "Main Stream Movie Guy". I have watched a few Foreign Flicks and Cathy and I would look at each other at the end with that o_OWTF just happened look...

We watched the latest movie version of Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Totally dug it! Good action, blend of humor and suspense. A great addition to the "James Bond" spy action movies. They totally set it up for a sequel and I certainly hope they pull it off...

Much as I liked seeing Star Wars IV in the theater in 1977, I'm much older and crotchetier now. But we do have a Kevorkian theater that tends to be underutilized less than a mile away. Depends on the size of the crowd.
Hah! I saw Star Wars IV at the Lancaster Drive-in in 1977 sitting on top of my buddies van front row drinking waaaayyyyyy too many beers. Ahhh fond (but vague) memories...

Movie Trivia: The Lancaster Drive In was featured in the movie "Spies Like Us" starring Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase... It was a cover for an underground facility.

Soooo, you saw Star Wars in 1976 and Empire in 1982.....based on how behind the times that theater appears to be. Wasn't Pacific Rim 2013.:laugh:

I was just showing off the mega-movie complex that they had in the big city... I actually lived quite a ways from that metropolis.

And... True love is when your wife skips the pre-screening on the studio lot to wait and see it with the family on opening day! Not sure I would have resisted... :whistling:

The wife and I saw that one recently, also... Agree that it was worth seeing!

Yeah Google street view is never up to date.

I would have had a very hard time passing that up as well.

I caught Star Wars on the re-release, maybe the fall of '77 or early '78. I was seven, and it was the first movie I ever saw in a theater.
El Rancho Theatre, old-town Victorville, CA! Mind was blown. Literally a life changing event.

I just took my 7 years old son to watch the original star war the other day (Lido theater in Newport beach).
He has tons of Start War related crap, but he never saw a Star War movie. He loved it!
Lido is as old school as they get. Good time ;-)

I am not a Sci-Fi fan; give me Romantic Comedies any day.

I was about 13-14 when I lost to a friend playing Backgammon. The bet was if I lost I had to go see Empire Strikes Back. I enjoyed it but have not seen any other SW movies.

Sci-Fi is dumb bc the earth will explode before we ever have that much technology. :p

Edit: I just checked the year it was released, 1980. I was 18. Hmm, was that his way of getting me to go out on a date?? o_O

Yeah.....just like the ugly guy always ends up with the hot girl....and they always live happily ever after....realistic, if you ask me.

Trainwreck movie sucked really bad. Watched about 45 mins and turned it off. Not funny/amusing and she's not even hot, sorry.

Meru was pretty good.

I love Big Newport too. I'll probably try to get there after Christmas.
However, what I am most interested in seeing is "The Revenant."

Rocky horror! Went to the midnight screening multiple times with some girlfriends. Quite entertaining with all the audience parti-ci-pation!

And TFA, have tickets at cinopolis for the day after Christmas. If you've never been to one you have to try it. No waiting in line, Full size reclining seats, waiter service for food/coffee or drinks. Don't really remember the seeing original release, other than I was there. I was a junior in high school at the time, and it was '70s you know, so I have and excuse for not remembering.... :whistling:

Cinepolis is the only way to go! It's ruined me for normal theaters, though... Sushi, beer and leather recliners!
