The Fire Thread

Looks like the smoke has found its way to Prescott....

I was there on Friday & Saturday and while I heard it was worse easier in the week, it was a non-issue while we there. Couldn't smell it at all and didn't effect us in any way. On the drive home, we stopped in Moreno Valley to run into a tile store and the smoke was horrendous....2nd worst conditions I've ever experienced, surpassed only by when I worked the front lines of the monster fires in San Diego.

We need an alternative to the "like" button. More of a "thanks for posting." Let's assume in a thread such as this, our "likes" really mean thanks.

And this sucks really bad. I am sorry for all of you who are losing one trail after another. :( :bang: :poop:

Thats gotta be getting close to areas that have already burned recently. I remember that upper area was where PoodleDog brush was re-discovered as the Evil Weed.
.

Station fire was in 2009. Enough has grown back to fuel the progress, though the fire is less intense and moving slower.
They ran dozers up San Oline last time but it looks like it has passed that fire break already.

Monday, Monday,
Can't trust that day...

Mixed news from back east: El Dorado fire nearly 50% contained, and very little growth. Evacuation orders lifted for Yucaipa and Oak Glen. Buuuuut, a very frantic/strongly worded evacuation order for Angelus Oaks just went out. Looks like the fire is crawling around San Bernardino peak instead of straight up it.

Some peeps up at ElDo yesterday:

Well, if it's anything like San Clemente Singletracks down here in OC, it grows back much faster than expected and in no time at all you'll be wondering...."is anybody going to cut back this overgrowth"? Thanks for the photos. This was San Clemente Singletracks one week after the fire.

Middle Merrill has a spot called "the widowmaker". At least one mtber has died going over there.

And one guy went over and fell towards the end of Sunset Ridge several years back. He's luck and made it out alive.

I guess since Newcombs is on the eastern edge of Chantry that is gone as well. :( Hopefully, the cabins made it out unscathed.

Oh yeah, it starts growing back fast. And so does the poodle dog bush.
What will be missing is the trees. The big trees will never be back in our lifetimes.

The amount of fuel, dead trees, on the backside of Wilson is unbelievable, but I've seen it. Very concerning.

Check @Derkderkall maps. The fire has burned up to Newcombs saddle. Don't confuse it with Newcombs Ranch, the bar/restaurant on the 2 at Chilao. So far, the fire hasn't burned that way.
Fingers crossed.

The amount of trees at Chantry is little unique compared to most of the trails in Socal. The canopy of trees is thick and in the fall with the colors is my favorite place to ride on WEEKDAYS.

Yeah the trails will come back fairly soon. I'm worried about erosion here if we get some winter storms as this was a pretty big drainage for the south side of Yucaipa ridge as well as potato canyon in oak Glen. And as Ross said, there are a lot of oaks as well as a few conifers that will never come back.
