The Fire Thread

Google maps has the edge pretty dark close to Angeles crest.... And pushing up to crystal lake on the east

Looks like it's on the north-east side of hwy 38, so it jumped at Valley of The Falls Rd. Above the actual falls.
yeah, in the footage looks its burning up the southwest flank of san beranardino peak. The only positive I can think of is that it will run into the previously burned area of the 2015? Lake fire, theres still not much growth/ fuel there. Hope they can keep it away from amgelous oaks and south of the 38 between a oaks and the lake fire scar.

I was definitely thinking that exact thing... hopefully a lack of fuel will slow it down. Cool temps tonight!

All those fires, in addition to the human tragedy, so much habitat lost. It is devastating to see.

read this , it is all just sad. How much wild space will be left in 25-30yrs...

This breaks my heart...

Intelligent life wouldn't do this....so I say humans aren't as intelligent as we think we are..we are technologically advanced, but not emotionally or spiritually.

Is it wrong to say the world might be better off without us.....and it's trying to tell us in its own way....

The Earth will be just fine. The world we created will be just a smear in the geologic record. Riddled with plastics, our sedimentary deposits will tell the tale of the species that Sh!t their own bed.
Anthropocene, end of story.

Bingo! We are essentially a pestilence - fleas on a dog. The earth is trying to rid itself of this infestation by spreading disease, hurricanes, floods, fires and earthquakes. Eventually, it'll probably work, and we will have brought it upon ourselves.

Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to go burn fossil fuels to go to work so I can afford my plastic bicycles and all of their throw-away parts!

"Overnight, the Bobcat Fire continues to grow, moving in a northeasterly direction but is also slowly burning towards the west. As the foothill area above Monrovia has not seen a fire in over 60 years, residents will notice that at certain times the fire will be more visible, especially when brush catches fire for the first time in 60 years or more. The fire will continue to be visible from the City with plumes of smoke during the day. Firefighting crews have spent considerable time building defensive lines on the western and southern edges of the fire. Now, efforts are being focused on the east and northeastern edges of the fire. The goal is to keep the fire from jumping Highway 39.

Please note, the fire is burning at a high elevation, with fuels that historically have not burned, and is surrounded by defensible space, dozer lines, and even recently burned areas from fires in the past 3-4 years. The area will likely burn for several weeks until it is fully extinguished by crews."

Although last night the county fire page said the fire had jumped hwy 39......

Sounds like they are getting some containment lines fortified.... hopefully keep it between hwy 2 and 39... and out of Big Santa Anita Canyon if the wind stays low...
