The coffee lover thread

A Fox News article citing academic journals and scientists? Must be a slow day on the political front.

Ah man, now I have have Fox News in my browser history... I feel dirty.

But, they left out a few points from the Today article:

The shots were a little more delicate the others, but the increased amount of perceived sweetness made up for that change in ratio."

That sounds exactly how I don't want my shots: delicate and sweet. :gag: I'll stick to pressing the button on the super automatic, and leaving it on the fine grind setting.

Your setup may be my new wallpaper. :inlove:

Nice!!!

Re: steamer... Is the steam tip a 4-hole tip? If so, you might want to try plugging 2 holes with toothpicks (and cut them flush)
before you order a 2 hole tip. I could never find peace with the 4 hole tip (nor make decent microfoam) esp since I steam only about 3oz of milk in a 12oz pitcher...

Also, I assume you're not using the volumetric dosing feature?

4 hole steam tip I'm good with it now I just have to regulate steam.

The grinder is time-based and then of course measured to the exact amount down to 1/10 of a gram with my pearl scale.

Espresso machine itself I have both time and volumetric I like to converge on 30 grams volumetric at 30 seconds. Sometimes I run a little more ristretto others not.

@bvader - finally visited Daydream cafe... they were serving Cat and Cloud coffee which I've wanted to try. I had a machiato,
slightly acidic but not battery acid puckering acidic. However, my taste bud was messed up due to a huge plate of garlic fries just before.
Will have to go back again.

This is my current fav roasted beans, just went thru a 5 lb bag:

https://paradiseroasters.com/collections/frontpage/products/espresso-nuevo

Altho it's described as Dark, it's well roasted, no oil, no roasty flavors. It's exc straight and in a cappa.

Early on, I didn't have fantastic luck with wet processed green beans of the few that I've tried. So I've gravitated toward natural/dry processed as well.
Occasionally I'd try it again but never got something that worked as well for espresso prep, which is pretty much my only prep, but they were still great for
pourover. To be fair, I've had plenty of dry/naturals that were undrinkable as espresso as well but somehow the bias stuck. Perhaps the fruity aroma of the green beans...

But recently, I hit the jackpot with 2 wet processed beans that were absolutely amazing as single origin espresso. I've just roasted them again last weekend,
patiently waiting 2 weeks to let them outgas before I touch them, hoping that I can find the magic again.

I'm not to blame as I only steered toward their excellent espresso blend Nuevo. I will order it again...

I cannot vouch for the Paradise Ethiopia. That said, I buy more Ethiopia than any other origin by far and if I was limited to
only 1 origin, it'd be Ethiopia. At times I may have 3 different Ethiopia on hand. Thus I rarely buy roasted Ethiopia, or any roasted single origin.
