Pivot Cycles: Off my list

Our trail selection and access is phenomenal compared to San Diego and Marin County. I would like it to stay that way.

I agree with your assessment of local shops, etc. but Danimal is right - the shop has to sell what the manufacturer wants them to sell. Not every shop can sell the last five brands that don't offer an e mtB.

I got kinda long winded below, this post started looking like an mtb version of Pascal's "Pensees," or maybe more like "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey." But I feel better now.

Beyond aesthetic considerations, I don't see an absolute moral distinction between bike and e-bike. But aesthetics matter. When advocating for trail access, "human powered" is far more compelling than "e-assist" when we are asking land managers for permission to enter.

The county trails are above capacity. And when the time comes to thin out the crowds, the first move will be to restrict bike access. how long until a no-bike Saturday proposal gets traction?

Murphy's law dictates that I will finally buy my carbon wonderbike the week before OC Parks goes bike-free.

Bike shops have to realize that the ebike will inevitably lead to the end of mtb in OC. But they have payroll to meet this month. They will deal with the inevitable next month.

Dude Pivot makes some badass bikes. Can't fault them for wanting to make some money off of lazy Americans.
Companies can be run however their leaders choose. I have no control over that, only what I do. I'm choosing to support companies whose cycling philosophy (= business practice) aligns more with mine. That is fundamentally no longer Dude Pivot. It's irrelevant how badass their real bikes are. Aside: companies that don't make motorized bicycles make bikes that are just as badass as anything Dude Pivot produces. They are not a unique company, more so now.

Pardon me, I'm gonna ride my Turner Czar. A great bike designed and produced by a company that doesn't invest in motorized bicycles.

Definitely seeing them more and more. Ride the Floop usually once a week and have been seeing at least one or two every time. I don't particularly care either way, even though I think they are pointless. I wouldn't stop supporting a company though just because they choose to produce them. I just roll my eyes when getting passed like i'm standing still by some dude that outweighs my by 75lbs on a 50lb bike. I'm not necessarily opposed to the 'helps with access to those who are hindered' angle, but I can't help but think that category is extremely small. I think the majority are just lazy.
Another floop rider! We have sub floop forum! Its time to floop!

Guerrilla Gravity (and made in the USA), and Canfield Bros. don't do e-bike (yet)

SRAM has an E-Bike drivetrain group, though no motor yet, just heavy duty chain/cassette/shifter marketed for e-bikes. I think it is 8 speed with 11-40 something range, imagine the gaps between gears if you didn't have assist.... well you singlespeeders wouldn't care :)

Also saw DT Swiss has wheelset marketed for E-Bikes, and it's got "Super Boost Plus" 157mm axle spacing in the rear!

I hate to say it but that's a good looking bike.
It is a good looking bike, but I don't relish the thought of trying to climb with a 44lb bike, even with pedal assist.
...value for getting to more remote work sites.
I could see this.
Would we stand for that if it were fellow (pedal) mountain bikers poaching hiker only trails?
I know it's not the PC position to take, but until we get Marin, SOT etc access, (or equestrians are banned from everyplace we are,) I'm not censuring another rider for poaching hiker trails.

How are they going to do that selling this only in Europe? Euros have been eating up ebikes for a while now.
For the record, I've never once seen an aged person, disabled person or a child on an e-bike riding a trail. So, that is a Moots point!
The plural of anecdote is not data.

Uh Oh @mike LOL

Santa Cruz Has an eMTB in the Works

I don't have any faith in this one being true, but hey, it's fun to speculate. The crew at Santa Cruz vehemently denies any eMTB plans, but there's a tiny smidge of chance that it could happen down the road. Wait, at least hear me out before you accuse me of being a looney heretic for saying that Santa Cruz, arguably the "coolest" company in the game, might jump on the battery-powered bandwagon.

The most telling sign of the end times for me is that Santa Cruz has been owned by Dutch company Pon Holdings since 2015, and battery-powered transportation is a large part of Pon's portfolio. The Dutch conglomerate already owns a number of other cycling brands, including those who have their hands deep in the ebike pie, so it's pretty obvious to see where the tech would come from.

It's no secret that eMTBs are the current cash cow that companies are pushing, and this is especially true in Europe where Santa Cruz doesn't have the same foothold that they do in North America. On the flip side, Pon Holdings is known to be a hands-off type of dark overlord, so it's by no means a sure thing.
Santa Cruz Nomad 4
The new Nomad's appearance was divisive, but just imagine the comment section if it had a motor and battery bolted to it.

For their part, Santa Cruz denies that they'll be joining the battery brigade anytime soon. ''E-hostilities aside, our best bikes represent a convergence of passion and differentiation,'' Don Palermini, North American Marketing Manager at Santa Cruz, explained when I posed the eMTB question to him. ''I'm not sure we can deliver on that right now, so we're not working on one. That doesn't mean never, but we're not willing to spend the financial and social capital on a 'me too' product.''

So that's that, at least for now, I guess.

e-SC. Not to be confused with USC.:Roflmao:p:D

Hey corn..mtbking has taken over my life...football too time consuming.. but that was a great comeback by a kid rosen who was getting killed in the first half

I just have never been a fan of football. My brother was a meathead and while I played all kinds of sports football was always boring to me. Add in the attitudes those players have these days and it really makes watching unbearable (for me). My coworkers who talk nonstop about Disney football league or whatever it is seem to enjoy sitting around on weekends though.

I'd rather ride an ebike than watch football is all I'm saying. :D

I'm right there with you. Wasting 6+ hours on a 1-hour game?

I can't sit and watch any sport. Can't think of anythong more boring.

Boring? It was life or death! You haven't lived until you've watched the Bills and Raiders in an open air stadium that faces Canada at -10 degrees! So cold that you willingly pour your hot coffee in your shoes to stay warm!

Yeah... I don't watch it anymore either, except the big game. Four lost superbowls in a row was enough for me. :p
