Pivot Cycles: Off my list

I hate to sound prejudice but lets be logical here. A truly physically impaired/limited person is not going to be out there on the trails we see "healthy" (lazy) e-bikers rolling on.

But there is that rare case. My buddy Otto has been mountain biking for 30 years. He has been having heart problems for the past few years and last year for his 70th birthday had a pacemaker installed. He can pedal bike paths with a regular bike but his e-bike allows him to do the same OTB rides he's been doing for decades.

I'm an MTB rider first and ride e-MTB for a change of pace (after almost 40 years of MTB, it's fun). Hate, enact laws or say anything you want. Thing that pisses me off is when somebody (or a group) acts threateningly to an old person or a child.

Got it. I want e-bikes to be ridden legally and responsibly. Therefore, I threaten children and the infirm.

Having worked with 20,000 or so kids, and spending years defending disability rights, I think I'll politely bow out of this conversation. It's going nowhere with this logic.

Hey, fosl Bob, I'm not sure why confrontation is the focus of your participation here. The thread was started in the spirit of peaceful protest, and people here have kept it civil. You seem like you're here to stir things up as much as anything. Just an honest observation and nothing more. Please correct me if you think I'm out to lunch. Cheers, have a great day. :)

Absolutely. This is what e-bikes are truly for.

I wouldn't feel compelled to say what I said if the e-bikers would follow the laws intact. But when a an e-biker sneaks up on me from behind on a trail that is closed to motorized vehicles and passes at an unsafe speed, it's on!

That's his M.O. He lurks and only "contributes" in e-bike threads, and then quickly heads for left field. He'll be back on MTBR tonight talking about the e-bike "hate" in Orange County.

Hey @fos'l ,
Gotta ask bud, when have any of us threatened an old person or child here on imtbtrails?
I suggest not making generalized statements that would insinuate something that is not true.

I'm going to make a statement which I believe "In General" is the position of eBikes here on imtbtrails.
Rule #1. Nobody here is oppose to eBikes. They oppose eBikes on trails they are not authorized to be ridden on.
Rule #2. Nobody opposes anyone who is elderly or has health issues riding eBikes. They oppose fully able bodied individuals not earning their view and descent on an eBike when they are capable of earning it on a real mountain bike. If you are confused about this statement, refer back to rule #1.

So can we all move on? Please say yes. Mike was simply making the statement of civil decline to companies that manufacture eBikes.. and you know what? I am of the same opinion.

Not gonna lie, I might get an ebike soon. Those little Razor bikes they sell at Toys R Us look like they'd be fun around the neighborhood!

Definitely seeing them more and more. Ride the Floop usually once a week and have been seeing at least one or two every time. I don't particularly care either way, even though I think they are pointless. I wouldn't stop supporting a company though just because they choose to produce them. I just roll my eyes when getting passed like i'm standing still by some dude that outweighs my by 75lbs on a 50lb bike. I'm not necessarily opposed to the 'helps with access to those who are hindered' angle, but I can't help but think that category is extremely small. I think the majority are just lazy.

When it comes to E-mountain bike I pretty much subscribe to Mikey's rules #1 and #2.

And when it comes to jerks ... I grew up with an old saying "there's a d1ck in every crowd"

I think five years from now e-mtn bike will be a small portion of the market just like the real honest-to-god Phat bites have really become niche already. And perhaps we are all mostly over reacting Because we live in affluent where we actually see them.

What I do want to encourage is more people riding bikes in general E-bikes or not especially on the road / paths where we can start to reduce traffic. Use them to get to work running some errands or even just to join me or go to destination thats Actually a good thing.

Of course then we actually need to build some roads that are safe to ride on.... I Can Dream...

Only reason that I answered, and I'll stay out of all conversations in the future, was that someone stated he gave crap to an old guy at SO. That's probably my friend and he's a few months shy of 80, so a real terror on the trails (kind of like I am). And I won't go to MTBR since it's too much like this site; rather focus where there are decent individuals not a bunch of guys flexing their muscles.

@fos'l stick around ....

There are a lot of good helpful supportive folks here that will drop what they are doing to help others out.

Currently the topic off E-bikes is probably not the best thread to jump in on... It's an emotional topic.

And for folks like your friend that is probably not a problem , there are others that are "not cool/have poor judgement" I personally (with 2female riders) have been nearly knocked off STT on a clmb by 3 dudes on E-bikes on a climb.

I am by nature non judgmental, I did not yell at them, and if I had caught up I would have asked them to simply be considerate.

And remember...Internet forums are actually one of the worst places to have a reasonable conversation
