New Bike Day!

I didn't know until I typed it. Didn't know they had sliders either otherwise I might have bought one when I was shopping in late 2018.
You would have had to get titanium then I think, but not sure that even existed then. I’m unclear obviously...there is a wait right now for steel and alum, maybe a second run or a v2? I’ve seen pics of non-ti ones in the wild.:unsure:

Yes, multiple bikes at once deserves its own thread.

I loved the looks of their bikes when I was looking in 2017, but I had never seen one in the wild. There were threads on MTBR about them, but I ended up with the Chameleon. Prices always seemed decent, too... Hmmm... Next trip to Buffalo maybe a side trip over the border.

And I thought the company initials were cool... Something I try to live by. :D

Eh, not to perpetuate speaking in code for those who don't pore over this stuff like an OCD case study...

It's a RSD Bikes Middlechild, available in ti and soon in steel and alum. I got in line for a steel one. I already have plans to sell it, too. o_O My deal with the devil was...if you love the cheap one, upgrade it. Do I love that little devil? :inlove::cool:

@rossage and you one-gear guys showed me a way, thanks. A rad-ish, versatile hardtail that fits me sounds like a tool I can get some use out of later this year. Those all-day rides were awesome last year, but admittedly started feeling somewhat routine. Time for some spice. :sneaky:

I think a bottle cage will tame that unruly downtube routing.

Sweet! Same chain stay length(s) as the Chameleon, but with a slacked out front end. That would be a fun ride... Especially in steel.

I have the budget... Not enough for super blingy. My problem is I overthink and read too many reviews. Time to go ride a few and see what catches my eye. Futuristic plastic? Retro grouch steel? Road plus? We shall see!

You have amazing options out there, and no bad choices! The Open U.P. is the hot bike of the moment... but it's price is a little cray-cray.

My budget will lead me to the more mundane- Giant, Salsa, Kona, Ridley...

I'll throw it out there... My top choices at the moment are either the Giant Revolt advanced or the Kona Rove in steel. I'm not concerned about weight. My 25 pound Schwinn is still the best riding road bike I've ever had and it has countless miles on it. It was also my dirt rider in the 80s. :-)

Oh yeah! After years of riding over-forked XC hardtails, the Fuse was exactly what I was looking for. Fun, versatile, and cheap (Al).
I'm dreaming of a custom Ti frame with these numbers...Kingdom? Maybe the machine elves can make me one...

I can't get into aluminum for road bikes, although I'm sure they're fine. Either steel or CF. Rove is a good one, can't fault a thing on it, and price is great.

If you're one to break frames you may want to scratch Ridley off your list....

The Giant warranty on their carbon frames seems impressive, and I know @Grego has used it. But steel... Oooooh, I love steel. And then I go off on a tangent and remember that my longest mixed ride (101/11,000) was on a steel mountain hardtail and it was comfy all day.

Opinion on the mechanical discs? I think I see a cable through the mud... :D A lot of the bikes I've been looking at have the TRP Spyre... Reviews on-line seem pretty positive.
They Spyres are okaaaaaay. They have easy inboard/outboard adjustment. Stopping power doesn't seem as good as BB7s, which I would have preferred, but at the time didn't have a flat mount option.

Any suggestions on new water bottle cages for new bike day? Jennifer has a really nice side load on her Mojo but It was $60. I need 4 of them. :whistling:

Lezyne side load is good, so is Arundel.
Aruendel is supposed to hold Camelback bottles, which Lezyne doesn't.
You may not need sideload as it's a road bike frame with more room... if you don't need them, due to frame limitations, I would get regular ones as they hold better IMHO.

Have not mounted it yet on the wife's, but got her a Special Ed Roll cage. She doesn't have enough experience with frame bottles to have a L/R preference, so this one does either. Or neither. At fifteen bucks, WTH...

I've used one like this cheapie for the last year, and it has been fool proof: https://xion.store/product/sunlite-side-load-water-bottle-cage

I pulled the regular carbon ones off my road bike. Jennifer wants sideload but I will tell her it's probably better to have front load.

Personal preference. Side isn't necessary on road frames, but maybe on a smaller frame it would still be beneficial. They do have the potential to bounce bottles out easier. Try the side loads, and if it's a problem, change them up later on?
