Music... I Listened to Some

Nearly trapped in the bubblegum era with a Top 5 US Billboard “Little Willey” and a few other Archies-esque chart toppers. Finally settled on the band name of “Sweet”, this band has had more personnel changes than the shop floor of an Amazon wear house and they are all dead.

Sweet known for Ballroom Blitz, Fox on the Run, and Love is like Oxygen really wanted to move into an edgy sound.
Sweet F.A. As simple as it is still can find a way to your adrenal gland. A band with more talent then most realize and have sold over 35 million albums.
(Yeah, I got time on my hands:))

Andy Partridge explains how a Halloween jack-o-lantern that he decided to keep around after the holiday by impaling it on a fencepost near his recording studio fired up his creative juices. “Yeah, so I’d see the rotting head, and I started to think, ‘What did he do to deserve to be executed — to be put on a spike on Traitor’s Gate here? He did nothing wrong. He was kind of perfect.’”

“And then I thought, ‘Hmmm, what would happen if there was somebody on Earth who was kind of perfect?’ I just started to extrapolate on that idea, and really mess around with it in a kind of Dylanesque way. I thought, ‘Why don’t I come up with ‘The Ballad of’ — the ballad of somebody who’s pretty much perfect?’ And the more I thought about it, the more I thought, ‘God, they’d make so many enemies!’ You know, if they really encouraged humanity and humaneness and love and sharing and giving, they would really piss off so many people in power, that those people in power would do everything they could to stop them, including killing them!”

I'll throw it out there as one of the best songs released in 2021. Might be because the narrative runs closely parallel to a period of time in my own life. The whole album is excellent. Well worth a few minutes of your time to really listen to the lyrics, even if this sort of Americana isn't exactly your cup of tea. Some brilliant lines and imagery in there.

I wanted to hate this - but then the line about the "2nd best surfer on the central coast" made me keep listening.

Yup - good song.

Glad you stuck with it. Yeah, some great lines: "We met up in Brooklyn before it went hipster, you carried your keys in your fist", "Cashin' in on a 30-year crush, you can't be young and do that..."

Primus is on a Rush tribute tour, including all of the Farewell to Kings LP. Imagine the musical balls it would take to even consider such an undertaking with a three-piece. So much respect for Primus for this epic nod to the guys who gave them a start playing big shows.

I'll blame @herzalot for this one, he sent me down a rabbit hole of NZ music after talking about listening to Flight of the Conchords. Heres some stuff you fullas might find interesting. Some alternatives to the usual stuff you might have heard coming out of NZ (Split Enz, Crowded House that sort of stuff)

“Return to the breath, [even while doing routine chores such as sweeping and washing dishes]…

“I try to live every moment like that, relaxed, dwelling peacefully in the present moment and respond to events with compassion.” - Thich Nhat Hanh (1926-2022)

I just finished reading about the passing at age 95 of Thich Nhat Hanh and then stumbled over this beautiful new song by 2 of my favorite songwriters. Talk about irony...
