Music... I Listened to Some

What a voice. No training will get ya that. TFPU, Jim.

Indeed, Mike! I like the no training comment. I always felt hampered as a guitar player by being so hung up on music theory.

Back to the song: 1974 - brings me back to when I was a preteen just starting to smoke whatever stems and seeds weed I could get my hands on. Pretty sure that song was on the radio often when I was hanging out with friends while mildly stoned. All sorts of amazingly potent options ever known now available at your local corner pot store, but I no longer indulge. Haven't for a very long time.

Oh Frikken NO!

Beautiful.

I am leaving Mississippi in the evening rain
These Delta towns wear satin gowns
In a high beamed frame
Loretta Lynn guides my hands through the radio
Where would I be in times like these
Without the songs Loretta wrote?
When you can't find a friend
You've still got the radio
When you can't find a friend
You've still got the radio
Radio, listen to the radio
Radio, listen to the radio
I left a handsome two stepped good ole boy in Tennessee
Now, he's sittin' on the sofa, lookin' for his supper,
Wonderin' what's become of me
I've got a double-o-eighteen Martin guitar in the
Back seat of the car
Hey, I'm leaving Mississippi,
With the radio on
When you can't find a friend
You've still got the radio
When you can't find a friend
You've still got the radio
Radio, listen to the radio
Radio, listen to the radio
There's a moon across the border in the Louisiana sky
I smell the Pontchartrain, I hear Silver Wings
Then, away Merle Haggard flies
That good ole boy will find a Band of Gold
On the stereo
Hey, then my Mama's gonna call and say,
"Where's she gone?"
He'll say, "Down the road with the radio on."

Nightmares on Wax was one of the first artists to turn me on to the "Trip Hop" genre back in the late 90's, back around when Carboot Soul was released. Great stuff!

For now, I'll turn my attention back to the late Nanci Griffith for at least another couple days. The last three posts in this thread sort of come across as a wild left-hand turn to what was a nice little memorial to a great American artist lost too soon. I'm sure no offense was intended, and no offense taken.
