Music... I Listened to Some

Do it now....about 10 years ago I used to to say "when I retire, I'm going to learn to play guitar"...my wife looked at me with a bemused smile and asked why I would would wait.....so my fingers are more arthritic when I start? The next day I signed up for some lessons and have been playing ever since...I even play bass in a local Americana/Blues band....one of the best things she has ever talked me in to. It's a great creative outlet and just feels plain old good! The first few years are a bit frustrating because my progress was slow, but at some point, you reach a tipping point and actually understand what you are doing and your fingers listen to your brain.....now singing while playing is a whole 'nother animal. I still struggle with that.....thankfully now as a bassist, I'm not expected to do much singing.
Excellent output! Glad you found some grooves.

You nailed it for me. In the zone, there’s nothing like it. With your buddies or solo.

Playing instruments deserves its own thread.

Listening = inhaling
Playing = exhaling

More of them disheveled stoner-dopers going off. This one's for you and your civil servant brethren, @mtbMike:

Watch that without a tear? You're harder than me.

Kenny and Brian May, wow. Happy Friday! :)

Tears? I couldn't even listen to the whole thing. Not my cup of tea but one of my old work partners loves this band. Now I guess I know ONE song they sing since you posted this. @mike you're working too hard trying to cherry pick bangs that were *not* stoners/dopers from this era. I'd probably use the entire bandwidth of the World Wide Web doing the opposite but here's just one from 5 Finger....https://www.thefix.com/five-finger-death-punch-speak-out-about-singers-addiction-struggle

I never said this band was not comprised of stoner-dopers. I never actually thought about whether they are or not – I'm just riffing on the categorization you laid on hard rock because it strikes me as so fukcing peculiar in these times. And realistically, the fact that I could "cherry pick" all day hard rock musicians not on drugs means that painting the music the way you have equals stereotyping.

That's the difference between us, musically. You judge music based on the people you perceive to be playing or listening to it, and I don't. Couldn't turn down the music and watch the homage to civil servants? That's a pity. It's very well done. Cheers, happy weekend!

PS: Another sober guy you can love, Zakk Wylde. Oops, looks like stoner, ferget it. :D

Mike, what would you do if I pulled out a pipe and took a hit while guiding you on a ride? ;)

In all honesty I watched...tried to listen. Good...no, great...music, but the lyrics were unintelligible. Which is a shame, because I sense there's a hell of a story in this ballad.

I don’t judge the music based on whether the band members were stoners/dopers or not. I’m sure there’s musicians I like that partake in this activities. It just so happens that I dislike that era of music *for the most part*. That 5 Finger song you posted was mostly just some guy screaming into a microphone for the most part in my opinion. Pretty obnoxious.

I probably would just ignore you smoking a bowl but then again if you asked for an opinion, you’ll get both barrels. I was on an organized MTB tour and the guide (who I like) started talking up Bernie Sanders’ campaign and I had no problem lighting into him.

From reputation, @mike and @rossage are the two best technical riders on this forum. What else do they have in common? (Scratching chin emoji)

Oh yeah? Thanks! There's a few more around here who can roll some rocks...they know who they are.
While most people will think about pot users as stereotypical stoner dudes and dudettes, using cannabis doesn't mean you have to be Spicoli, though you can, if you want to.
I have found that a medicinal amount, 0.15-0.20g, of dry herb, vaped, will allay my scatter-brained thoughts and help me focus on the task at hand, typically technical singletrack, or sometimes other stuff like having a cup of coffee or getting laid....

@Tom the Bomb eats Itchy-Scratchy and Webb Canyon for dinner every Wednesday.

Well this is the music thread, which became a commentary on stoners, which prompted me to point out two excellent riders who partake while riding. It wasn't my intention to turn this into a "Who's a great rider on IMTB thread." My bad.

Back to the music! Why was Mick Fleetwood such a perfect metronome even while under the influence of alcohol and drugs? I lose all sense of time, speed and most coordination if in an altered state.

Pump the brakes, herzie!...there is loads of skill all over the forum. Park skills, I have none, I rarely go fast and can’t corner worth a F.

First blush shows rossage and I enjoy some of the same recreation. But the more basal stuff is what really makes us bros; our co-opting non-western cultures and embrace of non-traditional vocation are two biggies.

Turning on a headlamp in the cold always reminds me...

And when the cosmos align and we approach critical mass, memorable things start to happen.
Cheers!

And here's to White Widow sativa and Sumatran coffee for a rainy day wake and bake...

I just sent 2.5 coldies, cracked open GarageBand and pulled out my new acoustic love. Macbook Pro mic is impressive!

For @mtbMike. :) Sorry about the 457 mistakes and the tuning.

Blue on Black

Night
Falls and I'am alone
Skin
Yeah chilled me to the bone
You
Turned and you ran
Oh yea
Oh slipped
Right from my hand
Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
It don't mean much
Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
As a dead man's touch
Whisper on a scream
Doesn't change a thing
Doesn't bring you back
Blue on black
Blind
Oh now I see
Truth
Lies and in between
Wrong
Can't be undone
Slipped
From the tip of your tongue
Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on a shove
It don't mean much
Joker on jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
As a dead man's touch
Whisper on a scream
Doesn't change a thing
Doesn't bring you back
Blue on black

A song made by The Paper Stars from a poem written by Jonny Copp about an avalanche. The poem was penned shortly before Copp and his two partners were swept off Mount Edgar during their attempted ascent of the unclimbed Chinese peak. RIP, Jonny, Micah and Wade.

Border Country

Here it comes to take me down, take me down with that thundering sound
Here she comes all spread wide, calling me back from Border Country
Inch by inch, step by step, shadows running in both directions

I’m cowering down from the echo in town, bringing us face to face
Tied my boots, make a run, turn to see that my thought’s untied
Standing still in the blazing sun, nowhere to hide
In Border Country

Here it comes to take me down, take me down with that thundering sound
Here she comes all spread wide, calling me back from Border Country
Inch by inch, step by step, shadows running in both directions

I’m grabbing the earth, hold on tight
wishing for my mamma and my sweetheart’s delight
Here in Border Country

Pull out a pin and whistle, let the old man dance
I’m buying my ticket out of Border Country

Prophetic.
Sometimes I have second thoughts about writing things down, lest they come true!
