I kinda thought the Blasters might suck. Phil Alvin looks like death warmed over, but his voice was great! They and Los Lobos kicked ass. Waiting for X.I’ll be seeing ‘em at the end of the month.

John Prine is a national treasure. Salute to the man, and to homegrown music everywhere.Love this.
LOVE me some Social D. Back in my music business days I managed the producer that did a couple of their more recent records. I went down to the studio when they were mixing the Greatest Hits record (they actually re-recorded all those songs, though they didn't advertise it as such) and got to spend some time listening down with just my client and Mike Neff in the room. He was a genuinely nice guy, and while I'm way too jaded to typically care about any "celebrity", I was honored to be in his presence.
OC rock at its finest.
I rolled into El Matador mid-week for an artery-clogging lunch, and those dirtbags were infesting a booth yukking it up.
Swilling a beer at Balboa Saloon, Social D comes on the juke...I tell the bartender their days of opening shows are over. This cat at the bar gives us a nod and leaves. That was Dennis (of Social D) batender says. RIP, rock and roll brother.
I love hearing these stories. Heh, Ness...my old boss (a band guy himself) was bike riding in his SA hood on garage sale weekend and came by Mike's house, chatting him up. "yea, I'm in this band, Social Distortion..." seemed like an unassuming guy. Like most are, I'd guess.LOVE me some Social D. Was this semi recently, like within the last 10 years? I ask because the client I mentioned above was also Motorhead's producer for their last few records. Wonder if we know the same guy. And yeah, Lemmy stories........I love hearing these stories. I know a sound engineer who was mixing a Motorhead record with Lemmy kicked back on the couch in back, eyes closed with a bottle of JD. When the engineer adjusted the bass so he could simply get a handle on where it was in the mix, Lemmy booms out DON'T FCK WITH THE BASS.
I played that song like four times in a row the other night. Unmatched writing, playing, guitar tone and production. What else is there? TFPU, Matt.Easily my favorite Social D song, and one of my favorite rock and roll songs of all time. The perfect blend rock swagger/attitude and self deprecation. And a heaping helping of loud guitar. Just perfect.
I think yes. Kris S. is the sound engineer's name. Was this semi recently, like within the last 10 years? I ask because the client I mentioned above was also Motorhead's producer for their last few records. Wonder if we know the same guy. And yeah, Lemmy stories........
Alas, different guys, though I'm sure they know each other.I played that song like four times in a row the other night. Unmatched writing, playing, guitar tone and production. What else is there? TFPU, Matt.

A little evidence that ZZ is one of the best rock bands of all time. So good...I was born my papa's son when I hit the ground I was on the run....
I didn't realize that Steve Earle lifted the first part of that lyric from them (presumably). He turns a good version of it though.I was born my papa's son when I hit the ground I was on the run....
Jamie West Oram's crystalline, haunting guitar sound is still a favorite.
