Knee Replacement Day October 12th 2021

Week 4 and 2 days.
2nd official Kaiser Physical Therapy session. NOT with Stephen my mountain biking PT buddy today, but with Drill Sergeant Maria from some covert underground militia training facility!

Maria was about half my size and thoroughly kicked my azz! She made me do… things.

Plus… Drill Sergeant Maria is… handsy :whistling:. She was more intimate with grabbing a full handful of Glutamous Maximus multiple times than my spouse has ever! In the end exhausted but pleased, good things happened and Militia Maria helped me break down some mental roadblocks I did not know I was experiencing!

Best part!
I got on a Big Boy Trainer and easily spun some 175mm cranks. In fact, she’s had the saddle too low which meant I had more spin range.

Current Range of Motion:
Left 0° to 105°
Right 0° to 115°
(Oh yeah!)

Afterwards, CJ and I went back to this little Cafe called Get Fresh Cafe for the second time. Last time I got a meatless-ball subsandwich and it was delicious! No way I could tell it was not meat. Today I got a Nashville Vegan Chicken Sandwich.
If someone ordered it for me at a regular diner, I would not have known it was not chicken! It was amazing! :geek:

What a good recovery only a month after a major dual overhaul. Is the original joint pain that drove you to surgery gone? As the surgery effects recede, do the knee joints feel like frictionless gliding surfaces?

Hey Robbie!
Thanks Man!
It was indeed knee joint pain that drove me to get some aftermarkets. My right knee was the worse. I had a torn meniscus (not bike related) back in 1991. It was on the inner side so it is not blood fed and more like Teflon. But once they trim it through arthroscopic you have less surface to do the job. So… that knee wore to bone on bone from cycling.
The left knee was wore down to near nothing as well, however… both knees ended up with something I have never heard of called pseudo gout. It’s like gout but in your knee joints. Floating particles of calcium that just plain hurts! So, with the plan to go to Arkansas and try to head their healthy, having Kaiser made this possible. I think the co-pay was like $40 bucks!

The new joints have zero drag that I can tell. Mind you the knees are still REALLY pissed off and swollen. Knee caps really hurt when trying to stand up out of a chair. I can’t actually do that yet. Chair has to be elevated. But I’m getting there!

I think at this point the only pain I will experience is whatever muscle and tendon anomalies I already had before. Remember… they only replaced the hinges!

Hope this helps Robbie!

120 degrees ROM is the target - and you're almost there. Spank that left knee into whimpering compliance already.

Seriously, glad to see this much progress this early. You're gonna nail this!!!

The weez and I are both impressed with your progress and attitude, Mikie. You've embraced the challenge and continue to exceed. Right on, pal. More than impressive, it's inspirational. Onward, then!:notworthy:

Keep doing and posting these outings. It will be interesting to see your improvement over the next 11 months. Amazing gains…the upside of down. Pace yourself, Mikie. But give it hell!
Thanks mike! Seriously, the cheerleading is a huge motivator! Thank you!

Hard bike rides and stuff like that is pussy shyt compared to a surgical setback. General anesthesia alone is rough. A sounder mind heals a body better, and I know that small things during recovery can make a marked difference in how one feels. Feel well, heal well – even if it takes meds temporarily.

I am truly psyched for you getting through this and rallying your riding career when it's right to. I have friends with partial or full joint replacements, and it's been a mixed bag regarding their will to return to normal activities. I'd like to be (read: will be) able to point out you as an example of what a person with strong will and discipline can do with good science. How's that for some cheerleading? I'm depending on you, now, bud. :geek: My expectations seem completely reasonable.:thumbsup:

You placed your bet on a winner mike. There is only one option, and that’s win. Thanks Buddy!

It’s Monday. Relaxed and just did a dog walk on Sunday night.
Back at it and ramping up the muscle stresses to build muscle back. So I did intervals…

Climb One, up to that last power pole, there is a small climb past it that loops back and down.

Looking back at climb one from the top of Climb Two up to the pump house. You can see the fire road on the hill across the canyon. Elsie getting tired of going back and forth. It was about 83 degrees.

Finger on the lens… On the return from Climb One. Think of it as one ginormous half pipe. Almost dead center of the pic is a tiny light aqua blue pump house, the top of Climb Two. :rolleyes:o_O
The dog in this pic is my Nephews dog who lives with my mom. His name is Joe Bag of Donuts… Joey, for short.
