Knee Replacement Day October 12th 2021

Today was X-rays and staple liberation day!
Turned out to be fairly uneventful. But it did finally lead to my first shower in 3 weeks. For a while, I thought everyone around me stunk… turns out, it was me…

Then you saw them, now you don’t! With staples gone, I’m thinking there is no chance of going back to being a leg model for sure.

They put this silly antibacterial glue on and apply like 40 little strips sort of like stitch bandaids but many did not even survive the drive home.
But when I DID get home…

I took a shower!
Uh… not with my glasses on.

3 weeks! That wasn’t so bad, was it? Think of all the time you got back in life!

TFPU! Looking good, Mikie. Now eat something. :geek:

WRONG!
Faster than a speeding, well… never mind.
More pummeled than a local psychotic,
Able to traverse decomposed granite in a meandering fashion,
Look! Out on the fire road! He’s no blur, he’s so plain, it’s Captain Cane!
Vowing to never ride an Evil, or eBike, Captain Cane is here to…
Umm, we’re not exactly sure what he’s here to do, but here he is!

Yes… this is an action shot!

That’s right! Borrowing my Mom’s cane (it’s pink with white outlined roses all over it so I call it Gun’s N Roses) I trudge up to the water tanks.

Great progress. Time to get a Hurrycane. I took my first ride today so I am progressing a little. All pavement to a water tank and back. A small step but a first step.

The new Ti-Guy: Prior to staple removal. These are paper prints I asked for to have something to bring home. By far, not high def pics. My body knows this has been done, I can’t feel them at all. I know this was done, the pain is still there, and muscles are sloppy beyond comprehension!
Yet… it all still seems so surreal.

Right leg head on. I’m standing for these pics…

Right leg side view. Closes to you is the inside of my leg slightly bent. Notice the addition to the patella (knee cap).

In this X-ray, I’m laying on a table with my knees slightly bent up in the air. The shot is taken from down by my feet and I have the receiver up at the top of my legs in my lap pointing towards my feet. A guarantee I have been radiated to never have kids. So the pic is looking up at my knees from below while slightly bent.

This pic is from this morning of the goofy strips they put on yesterday. As you can see, like “The Hulk” I’m busting out of ‘em!

Here to tell you that walking does nothing for your quads. I have been wondering why my IT Band has been tighter than a “E” string on a banjo and it’s been because my side muscles and IT Band have been covering for my loss of quad muscles.
Strength training is the only solution…

Fancy……

Ummmm....

The most common banjo type is a 5 string banjo and has a standard tuning in open G - the notes from the 5th string to the 1st are G, D, G, B, D.

Amazing x-rays, BTW!
:gotnothing: It was “supposed” to just be a glib joke.
So I “should” have said, “Tighter that a “G” String…” :D

Next time, I’ll break out research material.:p

TFPU – awesome stuff! Design that puts anything bike related to shame. I'd be proud to sport that gear. Power on, Mikie.

PS: @herzalot: @Mikie’s banjo must be tuned up to E.:p

My first day of real physical therapy at a Kaiser facility!

Meet Stephen. Stephen is my Physical Therapist. Stephen is also a Mountain Biker and lives in Santa Clarita who often rides over at Tapia. Stephen hates eBikes! I like Stephen, my Mountain Biking Physical Therapist. He rides a full squish Giant.

After taking some progress measurements, Stephen my Mountain Bike Therapist said, “Dude we need to get you on a bike.” Did I mention I really like my Physical Therapist?

With adjustable crank lengths, Stephen stated that I’m already well past the starting length for day one therapy, but we will use it for today to get warmed up. I died and went to heaven spinning those cranks! Note they are not clipped but use a toe strap (I looked past this…)

When it was all done, Stephen said I ranked in the top 3% as far as progress. Also said I was way farther ahead of even those with one knee replacement.
Yikes. Eat some meat dude.
Afterwards, CJ and I went to Rubio’s and I got a couple Fish Taco’s Especials even though it was not Tuesday! However, I think my stomach has shrunk and could only get a taco and a third down (I know… blasphemous!).

Excellent, Mikie. Crushing the recovery! Steady as she goes, and onward.:geek:

Today is 4 weeks to the day from surgery. Seems like an eternity… No, I didn’t fall off the STRAVA Map. I have been focused on stretching and strength training which has been way more beneficial than walking in circles outside. The 5th Wheel has steps and I have been working on climbing and descending the stairs. Descending is the biggie.
I have a training plan from my PT and I need to to do it 5 times a day, then ice down. It’s like a full time job! I usually get in actually 3 to 4 times a day.

The knees are looking better…

Just went for a quick walk with CJ and Elsie. I had the route pre-approved by the UCI so @Faust29 and @UPSed can bite it!:p

Although I still have those microsecond fear of knees buckling on occasion, I notice I’m walking less and less like stilts more and more with occasional slight knee buckles, so I’m getting stronger.

Look at that massive sprint speed increase!:cool:

Ha you thought those were Ti, no they swapped them out for 4130 Cromo. Now you will be stronger and faster, just watch out for those GE Scanning tunnels. They be scraping you off the walls
Happy bigh performance enhancement trails
