Ahhhh Sh!t. Well there goes another one. And unlike the photo of the E-Bike with Santa Cruz stickers on it I posted last summer, this one really is a Santa Cruz.
Will the last company not making an e-bike please bring the flag? (over here to the luddite camp)

A few left:
Yeti
Guerilla Gravity
Knolly
Banshee
Ibis
Transition

I'm sure there's a few more boutique names not making a moped. Yet. :(

(1) I ride a fair amount. I can't knock anyone who rides farther, more often, and climbs more than I do :)
(2) I hope I don't see you on my non-motorized trails, because if so I will be forced to make a snarky comment :) I don't play favorites with snarkiness :)

Interestingly, as I prepare to move to North Carolina, I am talking a lot with a large bike club in the Charlotte area. Their biking primarily consists of pump-style tracks, beautifully maintained, through parks and woods. You have to drive a bit to get into the mountains for some elevation change.

Even with flat trails, they are having trouble with e-bikes. Worse yet, they even had someone show up for their local short-course race riding an e-bike. He hid in the rear until the start... and then crept up through the field. Not sure if he did it as a joke, or if he really thought he might get away with it, but someone had to report him to the race marshals to get him DQed.

Yeah you need it, your rides are way to short without any elevation gain. The ebike should help.

Not sure why either of you would think I want an ebike? Just posting news of the SC ebike as several here assumed they wouldn't make one. :)

Disappointing if Santa Cruz is actually going to make on. On the bright side it is making it easier to choose a new bike since I won't buy from a company who makes e-bikes.

Man that list keeps getting smaller!:bang: Bummer about SC. Saw someone "pedaling" a proto around laguna a year ago

I have a bad feeling in a few years we wont even have that choice.
Proud Banshee owner
(so far. Although keith said somewhere on mtbr they wont go E.)

Begs the question, IF e is the future and selling an electric model is the only way to stay competitive, would we rather see one of the smaller companies go E or go bankrupt?

I don't get this argument... If boycott is a strategy, then everything that says "Shimano" needs to come off our bikes. They make the motors... Maxxis tires? They now have e-specific offerings. Where’s the blowback for them?

In economic terms, the bike manufacturers are probably the least culpable. Market forces above and below determine their course for survival.

Edit: The same rumor mill that predicted the SC ebike is also predicting one from Ibis and yeti... I'd bet my MBA they're right...

Any bike manufacturer who does not offer e-bikes will soon be one with the stegosaurus. Unless they can survive in their niche, which may be possible for a few of them. For a while.

The reason is as simple as my cousin. He's 10 years older than I am (meaning he's pushing 70) and he's retired, and like a lot of folks he's in St George, UT. Which has an amazing number of bike path miles. He and his wife both have e-bikes, and they're down to one car. This is the reality of the vast majority of the population; they don't need to cater to us.

Yeah... but bike companies didn't start making e-bikes just because maxxis came out with e-bike tires. The tire isn't the part with the motor in in.

No... But my point was that you're making a conscious decision to avoid SC (and soon Yeti and Ibis), but giving a pass to Shimano, Bosch, Maxxis and a boatload of others who have capitalized on the e-bike surge for far longer. The holdouts are being driven there by market forces. The early birds jumped in with both feet.

I won't boycott... There would be nothing left to ride.
