Is there something going on in Angeles? That dude that went missing on Baldy may have been found on the Angeles side. Then again his body may have been on the other side of the line. The first hiker was found. Alive? My pals work for search and recover, although you may use the official name "search and rescue"

I have ridden many times on this part of old PCH on Camp Pendleton... They have been working on it over the years

https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/f-35b-just-touched-down-on-the-old-pacific-coast-highway

I have also had Ospreys fly low overhead...dear lord they are huge

But the best my very first ride through (pre 9/11) I was dying and we had to stop and a whole amphibious unit including tanks which came ashore on the hovercraft....
Quite impressive!

I've ridden that a handful of times as well.
I seem to remember the power lines right at the edge of the road. I think a stretch has a treeline as well.
Always cool when you go by and the Marines are burning our $$ and making noise.

If anyone is in the Orange Villa Park area stop by for some lemonade!

“Lemonade Stand

My kids are selling lemonade for their puppy funds. $0.50 a cup and tips appreciated

Meredith neighborhood (Taft & Santiago) 2300 block Brookside Ave

That's pretty cute...

I hope the did well.

Actually did very well for their first day! They decided to keep the price per cup at $0.50 and the tips drove the profits. It also helped that the lemons were all from the backyard. 3.5 cups of sugar and 2 cups of water to make the simple syrup, yikes! I added a little maraschino cherry juice to make it pink lemonade too.

So aside from the kids wanting a dog they are both in sports that have some pretty hefty expenses for tournaments etc. This is a way for them to earn money towards that stuff too. Next time we will have homemade baked goods on sale. :p

Highlight of the day was receiving an online tip for the kids from a member here which was totally above and beyond. It reminded me of what a good place this is here and those who are a part of it. Hopefully I’ll be contributing more in the future.

This is one of those times where I seriously step back and think what the hell was I thinking coming here and exposing my family to this sh!t.

Before the end of last term I had to explain to my then 7 year old the reason he couldn't play outside at school one day was because some nutjob threatened to shoot-up a school. They locked the kids inside for the day.
Now I have to tell him the reason he can't sleep right now is because some nutjob shot his wife in a bar at the bottom of our hill and in the process shot a bunch of others.

How numb have I become to life in America?
My reaction right now is can you now kindly feck off with your helicopters so my kids can go to bed. I mean they are either dead or been carted of to hospital already.

Thoughts and prayers, I wonder how this can happen, why does it only happen here, insert other meaningless platitudes, etc, etc.

Sorry guys, for someone not from round here, this is not normal and the fact a lot of you just accept it as a price of living in the greatest country in the world leaves me quite frankly f@cking astounded.

I firmly disagree. This is happening all around the world and it has been all along. What is different now is that it is happening more often... all around the world. Mental illness is everywhere.

With all due respect, if you feel safer back home or elsewhere, if I was in your shoes, I wouldn't hesitate to leave from where you do not feel safe.

It's happening all around the world? I'd love to see your gun violence statistics to back that up. Sorry - before someone says there's no such thing as "gun violence," let me rephrase it - deadly violence from citizen to citizen using firearms.

Mental illness? Yes - people get mad, sad, angry and frustrated. What they do about that varies greatly.

America - love it or leave it? Really? Why not try to improve it - or is it just something we should shrug our shoulders and accept? That seems to be our collective response. We are quick to pass and accept laws outlawing toys or other products that have a very slight chance of injuring or killing, but God help us if we try to do something about mass shootings other than focus on "mental illness" or fortification of potential targets.

Religion. In other parts of the world, religion is the driving force for violence. Dare I say that this has been going on (elsewhere) even longer than here in the USA?

I'd love to improve America but society doesn't want to work together. The Individualism idea is driving us apart instead of helping us work together. Until we are actually all on the same team, things will never get better. IMO, this country has too much freedom.

In every state, it’s illegal to drive drunk, yet one person was killed in a drunk-driving crash every 39 minutes in the United States in 2021.

Careful man! Hitting people around here with any truth/fact that contradicts their programming is dangerous around here. :Roflmao:cautious:

We had a beloved member of iMtb pass from a car accident, another from a heart problem, and it was truly sad and we posted condolences.
I do not recall anyone posting things about the U.S. and how bad cars are or how Junk food may have contributed to the death of other, and why are we living here.

For now, do not focus on the guns, perp or the media and their "Click Bait" sensationalization of everything, but focus on the remembrance of those lost to a tragic event.

I'll continue to drive my car and ride Mtb knowing that they are risky endeavors, as is life in general. I'll also feel the sadness for those lost at cooks of whom my wife knew one or two as acquaintances. So yes, all of this hits home.

But I don’t have to be concerned with being collateral damage from you because yiu have heart disease or diabetes.

the innocent bystanders that were injured or killed the other night were not done so because deranged Dan walked into a bar swinging his heart disease and diabetes around.

I agree DUI penalties are too soft.

I understand your fear. I do not have a fear of being collateral damage, I can protect myself.

I did forget another stat:

In 2020, 620,327 LEGAL induced abortions were reported to CDC from 49 reporting areas.

What do you thing about this collateral damage, or are you concerned about your own well being?

How about this one:
Up to 440,000 deaths each year can be attributed to medical errors, injuries, accidents, and infections, according to the Journal of Patient Safety. That's more than 1,200 fatalities every day.
