I agree a very young juvenile. It does not know better. Most encounters you never see as they are hiding in the bush, its something they do. When they decide they want a taste they do not zig zag on the trail, they beeline right at you. So when you hear the chaparral snap it is either a large mule deer or a lion. Deer only crash for a moment and the sound runs away from you, cats do not care what is in the way and blow right through it and the sound gets closer. That is when I say "exit stage left". But I ride in empty places so encounters do happen every so. Normally they run from you. They are not social critters

Where do you live so I never ride there?

If that hiker hadn't noticed the cat charging, it's likely that he would have some nice teeth and claw marks to brag about later.

The funny/scary thing is, each and every one of us who rides out in the wilds has had a cat (at least once) staring at us as we passed by.

Here, kitty, kitty, kitty...

@herzalot - you have a kindred spirit on Zwift.:laugh:

I just saw the Glenair 2022 calendar. It is totally cool Chuck Yager on the cover, many cool historic shots. Douglas, North American Aviation, Hercules being towed from Culver City to Long Beach, X-3 and much more. Of course you need to be excited about aerodynamics to enjoy the picts. Coolest calendar I have gotten since the Far Side.

in the Conejo. I had a big encounter one winter night sitting at the top of Space Mtn. The next day we had a mini horse kill 1000 feet below that saddle. Had another going into Wildwood canyon the empty one not the popular one. Another on the Lynnmere side of the popular wildwood canyon. I had my mtn dawgs chase one around Tarantula hill ended up treeing that one. Three encounters up on Simi Hills, one that scared the crap out of me.
Then there are the Bobcats, 60+ pounds of just beautiful kitty. Ever see a Bobcat followed by 6 kits? totally cool. This is a photo of the night encounter cat a couple days later in a Newbury Park back yard

that one is hanging on my desk (:>

Never climb a ladder with sandals. Putting up Xmas decorations in the garage today. Lost balance and fell from about 4 feet with all my weight on my left hand. Multiple fractures below the wrist. Off the bike for 4 to 6 weeks.

take care of yourselves. Take the extra minute to ensure you are doing whatever safely.

The whole experience was traumatic. A little boy coded in the room next to me. The mothers screams and cries hit you deep in the soul. Apparently they sent them home from the ER with a chest cold. The were able to bring him back after working on him for like 20 mins. Nurse looked like hell when she came back to me to read me my X-rays. I told her to take some time and come back. I was in my room for about an hour. Thank God the kid survived. Hopefully he wasn’t deprived of oxygen for too long. I could hear the drs and nurses scrambling to save him. A machine saying “ starting cpr” I heard a clear”. Nurse mentioned that was a first for them. Thank god for modern medicine.

That's horrifying!!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your wrist injuries, but this ER experience sounds far more long lasting - especially if he had not survived. So glad he did - and like you, I am hoping he makes a quick and complete recovery. Just.... WOW.

I think we need to close down IMTB until people stop getting hurt!

Peeps in case it is not abundantly clear... NOW is not the time to get injured on or off the bike!!!

@solislbc sorry to hear that... Heal up! and sorry for the family and everyone that had to go in through that hopefully the little guy comes to the through OK.

Been through some traumatic stuff last couple weeks with my fathers (92!) Health.

So sorry for the hospital drama. Man! That had to be terrible?

Oh :poop:. And double Oh :poop: for the Urgent Care experience. I sincerely hope that the consequences for that family are short term and not life-long.

Heal up... And keep an eye out for the new sub-forum just for people on the injured reserve list.

Miracles are real. I caught the little boys name ,Aaron. I texted my wife and we started praying as soon as I figured out what was happening .
This will be long lasting. I’m trying to spin this positively in my head. I couldn’t see what was happening next door. At first I was actually annoyed thinking it was a lady being overly dramatic about pain she was experiencing. Once she started yelling his name and gasping I realized it was something bigger. Hug your kids tighter and thank God for ever moment we get with them. Lesson for me is grace and compassion.
