In any community, there is pressure to assimilate to the norm. The norm of IMTB is big climbing numbers.

For my rides.....yes, but you are forewarned before hand. However you are aware that I am capable of shorter distance/elevation rides....especially group rides.

It just comes down to the prominent posters....some of are big elevation climbers....but when it comes down to it, we are just the most noisy about it.

Again, not my point. I've ridden with many of the best and most impressive riders on this website, and they are gracious and patient with whomever is along for the ride. My point, which I seem to be failing to make, is the ethos of "go big or go home" that is pervasive on this web site.

I'll shut up now. I seem to be poking the hive too much. :bang:
I strongly agree with you Herz. There needs to be more posting about other things than "GBOGH".

Hmmmm, I think I've identified that the notion of "Go big or go home" is a trigger for me. I got bent out of shape on that other website years ago when I was hit with the same response for wanting more forgiving jump options at Snow Summit. I guess "go medium and go to the bar - but not for an IPA, but for something a little less bitter, and not many of them, just a couple.." doesn't have the same badass sound to it.

Los siento, mi amigos.

And I'll still have a beer with you. Just not your beer. :Roflmao

I think many of us ride for the fun and the workout and exercise MTB provides. Emphasis is on FUN and EXERCISE not necessarily STATS!! One rider here told me how much more fun he had when he shut Strava off. I use strava but it doesn't rule me.

I also ride for fun and exercise, but my idea of fun is very different from yours. Mine includes steep, and long, climbs. Not so much chunk and exposure on descents. Whereas other long climbers also want chunk and technically challenging exposure on the way down. To each their own, I say!!

Por eso estamos como estamos.

I've done 1700 rides over the last 7 years.....only a small handful of them weren't fun. Every single one tracked with my Garmin. But fun and exercise include the stats......for me. YMMV

I'm a fan of a Portly Porter myself.

Polygamy Porter, after all "Why Have Just One"?
