I Rode My Bike Today...

Seems on this thread some or many are still meeting up in groups to ride and in some cases not socially distancing (btw when breathing heavy and following eachother 6’ isn’t enough more like 10-15’). This is against the spirit of the stay at home order and Whether or not you believe the virus is a real threat, peeps not following the rules could cause further trail closures or extend then. C’mon guys this is just temporary embrace your inner introvert!

Big group ride with a bunch of locals. We didn't do very good with social distancing amongst ourselves. It was a fun day.

This has been my same thoughts since this started, but some people just don't get it.

I have been riding with one or two people at a time, but I agree, the heavy breathing part of our rides should have even more separation, just in case we are carrying little gremlins that we don't know about, or our trusted riding buddies are doing the same. The real challenge has been to remember distancing when helping someone with a mechanical issue.

So you are probably also advising against taking a pull from your buddy's camelback valve?

I think one other (conscientious) guy is okay as long as you keep distance. Once a few get together I think it starts getting very hard to keep distance and not bro out, it’s just human nature, even for me. I’ve mostly just been riding solo, at uncrowded times.

Look at this insanity:
Met up in a group, not social distancing, crossing closed area signs, AND riding an illegal trail through a fire-closed area. And posting it on social media.

At least they weren't on e-bikes, right!!!

SART" so good right now!
Although I ran into some bikers out there for the most part I was by myself most of the time. Started out at Glass rd. headed towards Middle control rd. up to the Post Office to do the loop and back to Glass rd. Took many breaks for pics and basically just because I'm out of shape but fun and flowy sections kept me going for more!

I wouldn't do these douchebags the honor of re-posting their poaching and disregard for others.

Waited until afternoon today. Temps were allegedly in the mid 70s around 2pm in Aliso Viejo, so I stalled and eventually went over to Canyon Vistas around 4pm. Not many people parked - which is typical for every Sunday afternoon. Temps were as advertised - very pleasant. Up Cheater Cholla (neighborhood streets) up Lynx extra credit and down Rock-It. Not another soul on the trail. Back up real Cholla, for a run down Lynx, including the extra credit. It's been a while since I've climbed Cholla, and I can tell that most of my climbing has been on lower gradient fireroads. Cholla was TOUGH. But, I didn't let myself use the 51t.

Lynx was a blast, and again - in isolation. Then "down" Coyote for one of my all-time favorite climbs - Mathis. I was intending to go to Alta Laguna (Top of the World) and head over to Meadows, but when I got to the top, all exits were sealed - and patrolled. No one from Laguna could enter, and I couldn't exit. I asked the young police representative if there were a way to get to Meadows and he confirmed that I could not. It too is sealed from the Laguna side.

I was tempted to hit Car Wreck on the way back, as I haven't done it yet on my new bike. But I don't trust myself to not make an error, and there was absolutely no one around to find me if I crashed. So I just did another run down Rock-It and headed back to my car.

Honestly, it was wonderful out there today. Relatively empty. Perfect temps. Fun trails.

13.8 m 2040' Bikes are fun.

Excellent! Between you and @scan I am stoked to get up there! Did you need a bug net at all?

Coal Cyn to Sierra Peak yesterday. Temperature was already 80° at the start. 1/4 way up I bonked. I don't do good in the heat and it was getting hotter. Took a rest, kept going. Sierra or bust. Sun beating down. Halfway up , by the rock pile, the temperature felt cooler with a slight breeze. The climb is a little easier too. Destiny. Cruised back down. Brakes squealing like sh!t. I'm done with the F1's. Still a good day on the bike.

I was across the canyon.....

What's the deal with the trail closure?

Sunday afternoon solitude at El Moro/LCWP. 4:00 roll time. Not too many cars at Ridge Park.

First time since all the rains. Lots of new ruts....some big ruts.

Lizard, Laurel, Camarillo, Stagecoach, Willow, Bommer....1/2 way to Old Emerald was the first time I saw other people. Down Old Emerald....

Gratuitous selfie......

Saw this guy on the way up Willow...

Slow rolled it up Emerald Canyon.....as usual, it felt way hotter than it was. Bommer, Fenceline, Missing Link. Dropped down to climb up Ticketron....there are some serious ruts on the way down to Deer Camp. Poison Oak Alley is in full effect. The mustard is overtaking the bottom and top of Ticketron.

Passed several people walking their dogs on No Dogs Trail(acutally No Name Trail) but has a No Dogs sign at the top.

Back at Ridge Park, the late afternoon arrivals were packing the joint.....people and cars everywhere.

Rode Cuyamaca state park today. All the trailheads are closed but trails are open, just park in pullouts along the road. It limits where hikers can start from so there aren't as many of them in some places. It is limiting horse people too. They could park in a pullout but would have no where to turn their rig around. Didn't see any horses.

Started just after sunrise to beat the heat. Started in a cold air drainage and it was chilly til I climbed out of it. Cyanothus is in full bloom everywhere

Climbed all the way to the north end of the park.

I was out there with @Tom the Bomb and @redwoods, Steve, Jason, and his daughter, Lily.
40 miles from Wildhorse to Morton.
SART is amazing right now.

Took Palo Comado over into @UPSed 's backyard for some new dirt. Simi Hills, emphasis on hills. Though the riding was pretty tame, it was a beautiful day to be out in a pretty area. As I continue to look for silver linings I'm grateful that taking it easy is taking me into new areas that I might not have otherwise explored. Ended up with 17 miles, 3211 feet. I was surprised to only end up with 17, but I guess the relentless climbing made the ride feel bigger than it was. It's a long road to the WW50, but I continue to be pleasantly surprised that my fitness held up better than I expected during the down time. I continue to fall a little deeper in love with the DV9 each time out, but today was my first time blasting down some mild chunk at speed (Palo). It thrashed my already tired legs, and I learned when I got back to the truck that it also shook my spare tube clean out of the frame strap. Also got another reminder that fire roads aren't dummy proof. Coming down Palo at mach chicken I came to the sand trap that I forgot was there because I rarely desend there. As I grabbed brakes, and tried to get to the right to avoid the trap I went into a power slide with both wheels which normally would have resulted in a plant with the recovering leg. I've gotten good at instinctively lifting that leg and was prepped for baseball slide/corn dog combo, but somehow managed to gather it back up. Pucker moment for sure.

I also got some SART action today! I knew the temps were going to be a bit lower, so had a casual start time at 10:00. I planned on doing the Loch Leven-SART-Warm Springs loop, so parked at at Warm Springs trailhead off of 38. Rode up the highway to LL center, which is a two mile slog. Ugggh, hated that part. FYI, LL/Mt. Home Creek Rd. is totally closed to parking. You'll need to park on the highway or down the road like I did.

Anyway, got off the highway and onto old 38/Mt. Home Creek Rd, and that's when things got glorious! Just perfect temps, sunny, nobody else out, perfectly hydrated, bike was good, tons of water in the creek, bugs weren't too bad (weren't too good though)... couldn't have been better! So anyway, up LL to Angeuls Oaks. Lots of little breaks along the climb as I'm not used to long climbs right now. Downed a bottle of Tailwind on the climb, then refilled and drank another by the post office. Both store and Oaks restaurant are both open!

I then took little ST right by the post office and rode the SART the whole way rather than the fire road to the helicopter pad area. Two trail runners were the only other people I saw! Perfect flow and conditions! I took it slow on the ST as I was solo and in no hurry. Did the little bonus ST off the fireroad where the SART drops you out onto. Casual roll down the fireroads to the car. Fifteen minutes and backhome!

Here's the route, I highly suggest it for anyone looking for some good climbing and solid mountain content: 20/3,200/3

We did the post office loop up seven oaks then long downhill on the sart! Perfect day.. post office is fantastic! Sketchy! Exposure! Whoohooo!!!! Was thinking of doing wildhorse to Morton too but too much planning and shuttle ... And not sure if wildhorse would be rideable.. wildhorse is wild nerness!!! sart is in great shape..lots of cold snow melt.. food at the restaurant..zucchini and cold beer. ... Sitting in the shade parking lot.. all open..
