I Rode My Bike Today...

TNBSS returns... @horsebikerider & @mtnbikej - also known as the @SingleSpeedDynamicDuo , along with @heandshewhodonotdoforums.
It was a nice group, even if The Professor bowed out.

I rode in single speed sympathy mode on the way up, and didn't shift out of the 32x21. On the way down, I was called out for hitting the harder gears on the flats. horsebikerider was having none of the shifty bits. :stop: Tough crowd! :cautious: :p

Lots of snakes tonight... Maybe they were attracted to the loud creaks coming from my bike. :p

Thursday Night Blackstar Social rolled back into town on......you guessed it, Thursday night.

@horsebikerider , @Faust29 , @guywhodoesn'tdoforums rolled out at 4:45 in mid 80's temps. The bugs were already making their presence noted.

Suz and I were on the SS's....the other 2 on gears.

The social pace blew up when we started climbing after the falls. Suz doesn't realize it, but she is much faster on the SS. She kept pulling away.

Snakes are out....we would count 4 rattlesnakes on the way up. This guy didn't blend in very well.....

Buggy on the way up. Suz started to lose her legs a little the last 10 mins to Beeks.

Quick turn around and fun ride back down.

Good times.

Easing myself back into “longer rides” so I headed out to Oaks and finished in Irvine Park. Nice day out there and I wanted to ride Weir but the mustard is just insane and I imagine it’s just as bad out there. I’ve been checking for ticks like crazy with all the bushwhacking.

Heart rate is still higher than normal but as I mentioned yesterday I have been stressed out big time with a very rapid escrow on a new house and work.

11ish miles and 1400ish feet.

Greer today...no arrests or tickets! 1:45 with overdrive, mouse, distortion, insidious, and TMB for dessert...one non venomous snake was spotted (still triggered my ancient snake form reflex and caused me to grab brakes before the good ole forebrain vetoed)

Back to my many minisquatches by 10 for domestic bliss on this staycation!

The Sphinx moth caterpillars are EVERYWHERE. We saw many at Cheseboro, I saw them in Tucson, and I am seeing them here in Yucca Valley. Gonna be big moths flying all over.

Nice find. Thats a Speckled rattler.

Well my job for today got cancelled yesterday....and the Professor wanted to ride.

So we set out for a bonus Friday San Juan ride.

The plan was just to cruise up and session a few spots that he hasn't been able to figure out.

Well, The Professor cleaned all 3 spots that he was having trouble with. It only took 2 tries on each one to figure it out. He was pretty stoked.

We only had 1 hiker ahead of us on the way up, and there was a group of riders that pulled into the parking lot just as we started to climb. Temps were warm, but tolerable.

Turned around at Cocktail Rock and started to run into the group behind us on the way down.

It was a good run down....until the 5th to the last switchback on the way down.....got a bit hung up, the bike tipped over and I took a tumble. A little bit of skin left on the DG.

Dip in the pool back at the Professor's to cool off.

Good times.

@sir crashalot and I did a casual lap after work today. We climbed up ye ole dartmoor to boat road and out to bommer. we then did a quick 1/2 run down OE and pushed/ rode back up to bommer which took us back to a trail called TnA? Hadn't heard of it before. Maybe you guys and gals have though. :whistling: Anyway there's a lot of over grown mustard on it these days so much so that it feels like you're getting barreled or tubed. Good times with Gary as always. Below is some POV footy of the that new trail to me called TnA?

I rode up Maple Springs this afternoon. The Maple Springs gate is still closed. I rode all the way to four corners and since I was feeling really good decided to continue to towers I saw on the way up. I've never gone that way. I think @Faust said it was 20 minutes of extra credit. 20 minutes?:cautious:. I kept going knowing that if I went home the Mrs. would make me do yard work so I gleefully pushed on. ( Feeble joke here ) I finally made it to some towers only to discover that the big collage towers I was heading for was still 1-2 miles away. I decided it was a good turnaround point having noticed that my handlebar mounted light was on. Hmm. It could have been on just then or have been on for a while. I started back down the mountain and stopped to take a screen shot of Strava. It read 15 miles. 15 miles? Yeah baby that means I get to go down hill for 15 miles.. I'll take it! I guess I mistakenly hit the pause Icon. When I hit the black top I kept the steam on only to slow for blind corners. At the gate I put on my blinky light and turned on my handlebar light. Now I'm really cranking away in high gear hamster fast- as fast as I can peddle on the blacktop back to the treefarm. Only when I reached my truck I noticed that Strava was paused the entire time down the mountain.. Oh well another day. :whistling: I didn't see not one person after the Maple Springs gate until I returned to the gate. It was really quite out there. 30 happy miles/ 4,073 feet of climbing.

Mustard be crazy!

Happy Easter/Eostre!

Smashy got jealous that the last two rides were with Godzilla, so we did Greer for 1:40 of chunktacular flowy goodness.

Overdrive/Mouse/Distortion/Insidious/TMB again

Smashy loved it all but especially Insidious...ate it up and begged for more....

Back to megabrood by 9 for festivities!

Yesterday... buddy's 50th B-day ride and BBQ, and kind of a reunion of the late 90s Turner-Simple Green DH team. Great to see all the guys 25 years later (some I see more often). DT even joined. Five of the bikes were Turners, one Intense and my Canfield. I shoulda pulled out the 5-spot I guess. But just like old times, the climbers/youngsters racing up the hills and everyone elbowing for position going down. No crashes thank goodness. Whiting-STT-O'Neil, lots of traffic in the parks but we didn't care.

The young (at heart) dudes...

Big rattler in Whiting. Some of the guys who know said it was a 1% er. It was sleepy and never rattled

Did causal solo ride this afternoon. I had added a second token to my 36 grip 2 just for shits and giggles. I already have a solid baseline setting for the fork so I wanted to see how it felt. Dropped the psi about 5 and adjusted the LSR and HSR accordingly. After the ride I'm on the fence about it though and may or may not leave it in. Probably need a couple more rides before deciding. Anyways, you can see the route below. OE and TnA are good suspension testers so that was what ridden today. I swear this bike has me riding more confident than ever. The more I let er eat the more fun it becomes. My run down TnA is below for those who may be interested because I totally shredded the gnar bro.

HOLY CRAP, DUDE! Sooooo much quicker than I've ever seen you ride that trail - and not just because the tall vegetation makes it seem that way. Nice pace all the way, including the techy section at the bottom. What V rock? And - better yet, I don't hear you panting and/or complaining about your legs like you used to. WOW!

I'd keep that bike - whatever it's done for your head is fantastic!:thumbsup::thumbsup: :):):):cool::cool:

Man, Chris I've never seen you get that excited before. haha! The Barnson opps I mean Bronson is definitely a good fit for me. I freakin love it. No cigs in 16 months and generally living a healthier lifestyle helps immensely. This bike has been a game changer for me needless to say.

PS I did edit the double steep section after the AS split. It's a poop show because the mustard and ruts currently.
