I Rode My Bike Today...

I joined a couple of buddies to do the Cowride out in Chino on Saturday. Sunday woke up late and rode The “urban assault loop” (Trailslayers loop) with a couple buddies. It was good to see @OTHRider back in the saddle.

San Juan Social Sunday!

@mtnbikej , @horsebikerider , along with TheProfessor, Two kids, and Hugh!

Fun time up and down on the Tin Lizard. I know this will be blasphemy, but it is so much easier and faster to get up and down that trail on the hardtail than on the barcalounger. I think part of it is that I never learned to sit and spin...

With a lot of the Santa Anas closed due to the Holy Fire, I really need to get out here more. San Juan and Motorway, at opposite ends of the mountain, are really all that's open now. Need to take advantage of both... And It's only 25 minutes from home...

Yeah, we stepped out of our comfort zone for a rare Sunday San Juan Social......

The Professor brought Jr. and a friend...so they took off early. We waited for Hugh to get there, so The Professor, @horsebikerider and @Faust29 took off and left me to wait....."Oh, you guys you will catch us". o_O

San Juan starts with zero warm up.....50' on the pavement then climb for the next 6.5 miles. My legs felt heavy....fortunately Hugh was feeling it even more....ride #2 for him since NYD. Temps were pretty toasty with the 3:00 start. We slowly worked our way up. Caught Suz, then the boys...eventually the Professor. Steve was feeling spunky and had raced out way ahead. He stopped and waiting....way up there.

We regrouped for the final push up to Cocktail Rock. Temps were quite nice with the breeze blowing. Conga line up to CR. Steve and I did a little extra credit up Old San Juan Trail.

We sent the Jr.'s off first....gave them a 5 min. head start. Suz took off. We gave here a few mins. Then the race was on. Took a while to catch up to Suz. The Professor and I went around. Caught Jr. #1 a little more than 1/2 way down. Jr. #2 beat me down.

Fun run down. Only a few riders coming up....no issues there.

Good times.

If Hugh = FB guy, looks like he doesn't need any more fitness to catch people!

Biggish ride yesterday with Vince. Wanted to do some exploring. Started at Switzers up Josephine to check out Colby. What a blast. Super chunky. Vince would have an OTB moment and I too would lay the bike down. Good thing I had my pads. Nothing serious for either one of us, continued on enjoying the new dirt, er, and rocks. Climbed Josephine again and then around the Strawberry loop. That's a good ride already. Topped of with water at Red Box. Up the Mt Wilson Road to check out Valley Forge. Sweet goodness open her up and let her rip! Such nice ST down to the river. But made the mistake of climbing to Red Box via the ST. Yikes that's steep. Will check out the fire road next time. From RB down Gabrielino. This makes three weekends in a row of that ST goodness and we cleaned the waterfall again! Well, after Colby, the waterfall seems easy. Back at the truck , we were beat. So much good riding in the Gabes and still more to explore for us. Good times!!!

Only a couple pic's from Colby.

Excellent ride! Up Josephine twice is nuts! Colby is no joke but the problem is it makes the loop too short. There is an overgrown connector back to the Gabrielino but you gotta know where it is.
VF is just flow compared to the chunk, but watch your step!
Going back up the trail, especially after that many miles is a grind. The fireroad sucks too.
Good job!

Good job @Grego that's a good ride, I was telling @rossage I wanted to ride VF so good to know don't take the Gabrielino singletrack up I'll stick to the fireroad.

I'll be riding Strawberry Saturday adding Valley Forge loop as well if your intrested,
Family in town.. no riding this weekend..so got a nice ride in today at aliso.. deserted out ther after 4.. nice loops.. trails seemed changed a bit but quite fun... 5 oaks so diff w the mustard...
Meadows all to myself! Had to share lynx n rocket but all good.. cant get greedy!
Saw a group of kids.. they were flyin down roxket.. so xool to see jr high school kids bombing!
Awesome errie ride at oaks...used all the daylight!

Just a quick out and back on Bell to see the condition before Rwanda... They graded out all of the ruts from the Dove Canyon waterfall to the main Caspers gate at the bench. Gotta get it ready (and wide enough :gag:) to squeeze 1200 souls through there. It wasn't too soft... Until I hit the end and turned around for the return trip. It poured... By the end, every square inch of me and the bike were covered in a nice layer of sand and grit. :Roflmao

I will say that I could tell the Aggressor on the rear is going to be a really grippy tire. With every pedal stroke, it lifted and flung at least a half pound of dirt onto the backs of my legs and into my shoes. :p

I could hear the equipment on Star Rise, so hopefully they get it rideable soon... Also saw the "special event" warning signs at the waterfall.

17 miles and 2000 feet...

Met up with @Ebruner at Santiago Oaks for a Tuesday night group ride. Followed by Tustin Brew Co. I didn’t feel great on the bike tonight and was just “off”. Heavy legs and tight on downs. Oaks is almost too overgrown at moment in spots. Creates a fog of bugs that are relentless. Nice short evening to ride.

I too was out at the Oaks with @horsebikerider

Right off the bat, I was cold.

Up Oak, saw 2 rattlers in the first 2 turns.

PR’d the 3rd B.

It was pretty clear that I wasn’t gonna get any warmer.

Rolled down Barham Ridge and down chutes. Ran across the high school teams out on training rides.

Nearly got run over by an Ebike that wasn’t willing to give an inch on the fire road.

Got home, never did warm up.

Left my black dog at home and did a high speed rip through the flower fields. The trails are so narrow right now adding so many extra twists and turns. It was wickedly fun. My lights coloring the tall mustard crowding the center of the trail at eye level combined with the high speed was magic. On the way back I was counting at all the brittle brush sunflowers strewn across the trail and gave confirmation that I spent most of my time coloring inside the lines with only a few flower heads trimmed by my passing spokes. When I got home I noticed not everything escaped the spinning spokes and my bike looked like it was dressed for a spring parade with yellow flowers adorning the front wheel.
Happy beautiful blooming trails
