Since the road bike is down with a broken RD cable, I commuted 36 miles today on the MTB. And half a mile from the house on the way home the rear tire was just about flat. Good sized shard of glass in the tire. I think I will not ride this weekend; I seem to be jinxed. And the kid has her equestrian show anyway. ;)

I rode my bike yesterday...
UPSed and Jennifer came up and Cathy and I met them at the "Y" and did our version of McGill Trail. It was a cruiser and we all had a great time!

I rode my bike today. Met a couple of IMTBers I've not met, and a couple other good dudes too. Great weather. A lot of climbing for me, I'm knackered. Check the RR under the Aliso thread. Bikes are fun

I slept in this morning but still got out for a ride.

Left the house and didn't know where I was going.

Quickly decided to head through Oaks & Weir Cyn then over to Chino Hills. Stayed overcast and comfortable til about halfway up Southridge/Telegraph Spur Trail. Got warm out there, but never really got hot.

Oaks was a ghost town when I came through at 1:45.

Pretty uneventful....except for the gigantic spider web I put my face through....didn't even see it.

Thought about doing the Aliso ride with everyone else, but the wife needed the car. So I needed to do a ride that I didn't have to drive to.

Cruised Whiting-Luge today with a bud on his first ride back from clavicle break/surgery. Best ride in awhile just seeing him back on the bike and not hurting too much :)

Well I felt good about my ride up to Old Camp today until I looked at J's numbers

I did have a great ride today though. My buddy (who for some mysterious reason sold his Mojo and quit riding last year) rode my HT and we set off for Old Camp around 7:30am from Cook's Corner. We were in no hurry so we stopped more than normal along the way, meaning we took our sweet ass time. The weather was perfect too!

@Cornholio - Looking at J's numbers will make you or almost anyone feel extremely wimpy, weak and maybe even a little disturbed. Again yesterday as I am completely wrung out after my 4th or 5th climb, I think about J's typical numbers and ask myself, could I do this same route two or three more times? The answer is always - "Oh, hell no!" I can barely unclip and lift my bike onto my car and my afternoon is spent sleeping, drinking water, eating and generally recovering. I cannot comprehend being able to do over 6000' every ride, and more often than not 8000' plus. Oh - and on a singlespeed. Between J's ridiculous stamina, and Burt's unique ability to ride anything on decades-old equipment, there are a few "freaks" of nature on this forum with almost cartoon character super-power abilities. If you tell these "I-know-a-guy-who..." stories to other riders, they won't believe you.

The crazy thing is... I'm pretty sure he's gotten stronger in the last year! It used to be that I could multiply my rides by a factor of 2, and I'd be in the ballpark. I'm pretty sure my "J factor" is now a solid 3. Once this hand is healed, and the weather cools a little, my goal is to get back to a solid 2X.

Since the family was out of town looking at a college for the boy and I had to work Sat morning. I reserved a room in Big Bear for Sat night. I got to Rim Nordic about 2pm put in 14/2100. Then finished my drive to B.B. checked in to the motel. Still had some light so I drove up to Skyline parked at the Bear Mtn trailhead. Headed up the road a bit and hit the downhill section back to the truck 3.4/620. Went to bed and got to enjoy the folks above making love then fighting like cats and dogs at 2am. Isn't that backwards. The battle died off around 2:30 went back to sleep. Woke around 7am loaded the truck headed to grab a bite to eat then over to Snow Summit. I headed up Towne trail to Knickerbocker the to Skyline towards plantation. Ended up with 20.4/2470. What a fun 24hrs. When I started MTB a year ago I could never imagine putting in this amount of time and miles in the saddle. Now I am hooked and pushing harder and harder. All told 37ish and 5000ish. Honey can I do it again please next weekend?

3 spd Townie from Chirstianitos Rd. to Trestles and back. 4 miles. 200 ft? I attempted to ride my board, but a year off has taken its toll, and I simply had to pay my dues today.

Rode my road bike today over to JRA for their shop gravel ride. I was running late so I decided to take a little fire road double track shortcut over to more pavement saving about 20 minutes. The Roubaix did pretty good in the dirt. Only a few showed up so it was a faster than normal paced ride. I already had 16.3 miles and 1618' so at least I was warmed up. The shop ride was 24.5 and 2122' so I ended up with 40.8 miles and 3740'. Great day in the saddle.

Roubaix in the dirt.

Rode the fully loop! I don t ride it often, but what made it worthwhile was the wife joined me on her mother's day present. She stopped riding 15 years ago. What was even better, our two girls peddled with us as well. Ages 10 and 12. In an hour and a half we did not have any KOMs but dad was grinning ear to ear.

Cathy and I buzzed down to Ventura and road the VRT (Ventura River Trail). She wanted to get some miles in to help set the ride we did with UPSed and Jennifer on Friday up on McGill Trail.
I'm very proud of Cathy getting out there and starting over on the bike!

Avoiding all the big events being held this weekend in BB, I rode locally w mtbbiker, doublewide, mtbbikers's friend Steve and me.

I took a nice digger at the top of Electric - hit a soft edge and lost my front tire. Landed side face into a flat rock. I sucked it up and kept going but my collar bone was hurting.

We hit Squirrel Cage and Craig had me go first: doublewide held my bike while I clipped in both feet and pushed me...CLEANED IT!!

We were getting tired and ended our ride w Jump Line. I could almost keep mtbbiker and doublewide in sight - the jumps are really a hoot! Unfortunately, Steve was taking too long to regroup. A few minutes passed, he rolled up and we asked if he was ok. He was not; OTB on the first jump took him out. Looks to be a broken shoulder of some sort.

Rides w mtbbiker never seem to be uneventful - maybe I should find a different riding partner? :D Or was it I that had the bad luck of people crashing on my rides??

Heal up fast Steve.....!!!!

Rode whiting Luge loop yesterday with a couple good friends. Nice fast climb, good company, and somewhat cautious descent as I was on an unfamiliar bike.

And today had to be in LA at noon for my nieces 2nd B-day party, so did early ride through whiting with the start and finish next to the new construction going up at Glen Ranch and El toro.
Although the Berm runs are gone, someone has put in a trail that sort of parallels the fire road. Saw it on the way back and rode some. Whoever it was, thanks! its short but sweet.

For whatever reason I chose not to use Strava either day. Hrz would be proud.....

Hooked up with Luis and his crew to ride Backbone to Sullivan. It was my first time ridin the Santa Monicas and pretty far out of the way but ended up being well worth the trip. I had done 16 and 3k local the day before and was concerned whether I could hang since I knew Luis always brings it with his rides [emoji47] . I did suffer but was able to hang on and enjoy the awesome scenery and dirt!.....We climbed up backbone and headed over to Sullivan for the descent. Ride came out to 26.5 and 3700 gain.....Definitely gonna be back here, it was well worth it [emoji106] !

I was partying last night until 3am this mornig (I have a hall pass for 2 more weeks [emoji41] ) woke up at midday did some cleaning... and went for a quick 1hr ride and had some heavy wind which I didn't mind... now heading to wingstop !

I rode my bike today...

I know it perhaps isn't going to mean anything to anybody else... but I did my first 50 mile ride since I got back on my bike a couple of years ago - after being off for (close to) two and a half decades (prior to that, 50 miles would've been a warm up...)

Anyway, I'm kinda pleased and looking forward to doing more...

Nice Andy! I know that any 50 mile ride is a big deal for most people around here. Props to you for getting back at it.

I'm also impressed that you found one of the flatter portions of South OC to do it in. The counter point of that flatness, is that you didn't get any free downhill time either! hehe :) Nice work!

Nice job! I can relate to the "decades off the bike", and I know it's an accomplishment to put in a 50 miler. Nice job!

Yesterday Snow Summit with Vincent, Ryan, Ray and an STR politician :o . Ray went to the Pro Shop to buy elbow pads but they were out of his size :wtf: A few runs later he crashes hard and skins up his elbows, go figure :!: . Specifically for SS I upgraded my '09 Enduro rear brake rotor from 185mm to 203mm to slow my 200 lb arse down. I tend to favor the rear brake. The bigger rotor noticeably had more power and didn't fade or burn up like the 185, was just what I needed :D I'm really digging the rainbow rock garden and step down just before it, finally got it dialed. Vincent and Ryan are flying on the tables. First time in a long time for the politician, he'll be back on a DH bike, I think he's hooked  . Some mechanicals and crashes here and there but nothing serious. Watching other little 7yr old ish kids hit the new pro jump line ant the bottom was just mind boggling  . Good times once again, I think this was our 6th this season. 9 runs 9900' descent. We'll be back in two weeks. :D

:o Very cool. I can't imagine my 5 yo doing that in two years.

Also, very jealous. Sounds like you had a great time yourself, along with your proud papa moments!

The important thing is you enjoyed and you're looking forward to more. 50 is a great ride, especially on a MTB and it is more than most have ever done, myself included...

Over 100 miles on the MTB.

And we won't even start with discussions of J's rides. :P

January 23, 2016! I'd be up for trying it on the hardtail. I saw guys doing the 50 mile version on full suspension bikes last year...
