I Rode My Bike Today...

I know it perhaps isn't going to mean anything to anybody else... but I did my first 50 mile ride since I got back on my bike a couple of years ago - after being off for (close to) two and a half decades (prior to that, 50 miles would've been a warm up...)

Anyway, I'm kinda pleased and looking forward to doing more...

Hey Andy!
Congrats Man! It is a big deal, and as you can tell it's a big deal to your imtb brothah's. This is a place to celebrate and share our successes. I remember years ago when I did my first 100 miler. I was all excited with no one to share it with :( . The guys I rode it with was a no big deal to them. So a hearty congratulations to you my friend!

50 miles is 50 miles.....time spent in the saddle can't be beat.

Well done.

I rode my first 100 miler this past July.

I think it was July 15, 18, 22, 24, 27, 28 and 30th!

combined...

Not today, but I got up to Big Bear on Saturday to ride Skyline again. Did our same loop as last time only took Plantation down to the new skyline section at the bottom of west side. That last bit of skyline is nothing short of AWESOME. Hertz, next time you are over on that side take it on the right from where plantation spits out. super fun. Did that and the short climb up 2n17 to finsih by going down Cabin 89. really rutted and roots at the steep section, I can't believe all 9 of us made it down without carnage or mechanicals. Great weather on Sat. dirt looked as though it just got rain. just bitchin conditions. 20 miles 3600 feet

Watching other little 7yr old ish kids hit the new pro jump line ant the bottom was just mind boggling  :D

:o Very cool. I can't imagine my 5 yo doing that in two years.

Also, very jealous. Sounds like you had a great time yourself, along with your proud papa moments!

When I can get my little baseball player out on the bike, he cheerfully points out that he can pass me on the climbs in the big ring! He's always nice enough to wait at the top and pretend he's taking a nap while waiting for the old man...

You have some fun times to look forward to! She'll pass you before long, and you'll remember that day forever.

I've done that section as a climb and it was fun. I imagine it was great the other direction (from Plantation to 2N-17).

Great photos and ride report. Nice work, and thanks!

Got to hit Oaks on Tues.

Saw a guy begin to descend Yucca; could it be him, Mr. MTB Century. YEP!! As I reached the bottom he was beginning his climb up Bubble Bee. He stops mid rev. "What are you doing out of the 951 area??" Hahaha....

Thanks for turning around to say hi J. I owe a lot of my better riding to you bc of all the tips you've given me over the years. Thanks!!

I rode! Woo-Hoo!

I originally just planned to do 10 miles or so on the pavement in and around RSM and O'Neill... But, after the 3rd climb up to the water tower on pavement, I said "what the heck", and climbed Live Oak as far as the bench. I only came close to passing out once, so I think the elliptical and trainer miles have helped. :-) I came down gingerly, and avoided the big bumps, and anything jarring.

It felt really really good to pedal. I need more.

Been on my to-do list... but today I finally did it...

Took one exploratory pre-ride, and some checking of google street view, Apple maps etc

Connected SART to Santiago Creek bike trail.

Which basically means I can now ride from home (Fountain Valley) to Santiago Oaks!

This ride was a there 'n' back - next time will include some of the actual trails AT Oaks...

BTW, if Josh is reading this - once again - MANY thanks for the tube - I owe you dude!

That is gonna be a pretty stout ride.....6 miles each way from SCBT to Memory Lane/SART, plus the 10 miles or so to FV on SART, plus the Oaks mileage. Go for it. ;)

42 miles (approx) round trip... Means I should still have a little gas left in the tank to tackle some elevation...

...obviously not approaching your epic rides! But its a start...

I rode my bike after work along with a couple of coworkers... the floop, no pics since there are too many here already, but..... at the last part right before coming down to the golf parking lot... there were this couple of hobos having and early bird quickie, they were covered half way but you could notice the ladys feet on the guys shoulders, and we stop at the top before deciding wath line to take, and the lady was like "come on, go ahead, 1 friend took a deviation and another went for it, the second one tried but midway down he chickened out and moved to the side and on my turn I was waiting on him to move, while the couple were wachting right next to me, and I was... man... I dont want to look.... hurry up man, to the side !!! finally went down and to the larking lot.. I didnt feel like taking a pic of the romantic scene you guys can imagine, as for me.. I want to forget..[emoji37]

A couple years ago, I was riding with my younger son, and another father and son duo, when we came across a "photo shoot" just past the top of the Coyote Canyon pavement section in O'Neill... Crazy!

I did a basic FLoop this morning also. Thank (insert favorite deity here) I did not see that. The visual you provided was more than enough
I just re-read it..... I guess I was to detailed... sorry... (shrivers...)

Nothing special, but a few miles of pavement and dirt... With 6 masochistic intervals on the last little climb up to Vista. :-)

All I can see on my computer is "untitled tiff" I can't see it or open it.

That's weird... I can see it on the Mac, and Tapatalk. Maybe the Tiff format causes issues for some. Converted to JPG now.

So... Note to self: When using the "Grab" application on the Mac to take a screenshot, convert the TIFF file to a JPG in Preview...

Most of my stolen photos were "grabbed" that way, and yes, I convert them all to jpeg before posting. It's easy, but it is one extra step.

Note: I usually include a photo credit for every stolen image.

I just figured out that the Preview app now does screenshots, as well. It gives the option to choose file formats when saving.

I rode today. I meant to get out early, but life happens. Left my garage at 8:30, rode up Ridge Park - took a quick lap of Lizard, Laurel Spur, Missing Link, Fenceline and out. I am guessing 10 miles and 1500' but I don't actually know. Does anyone know how I might be able to determine my mileage and altitude climbed? (j/k I already know). I finished at about 9:45. The heat wasn't too bad, but temps were definitely climbing on that end of the parks. Always great to be able to get in a ride even if it's just a short spin.

And now it's time to start packing up our apartment to move back into our house next weekend. A year-long remodel and it's still not ready. But - time's up! Ironically, I will no longer be able to access the park system without driving (or taking some very strange and time-consuming routes). Now if they would extend the Aliso Creek bike path all the way to the ocean, I would be one happy homeowner! I won't hold my breath.

Congratulations on getting back to "normal"! As a survivor of a forced remodel after 3 hurricanes ripped through, I understand how nice that can be! :D
