That is some serious breadth. You're teaching this somewhere?

From my living room right now haha, somehow, covering it all, in 3 online 45 minute sessions a week.... Still trying to figure out the 25% lab portion....

:bang:
"Figure it out" seems to be the M.O., huh? My wife is supposed to have a medical procedure next week, and she literally has no idea how she's supposed to get a sub. Compared to the end of last year I'm amazed by what both my wife, and my daughter's teachers have been able to do, with virtually no guidance. Distance learning still sucks, but the teachers damn sure can't be blamed.

Yeah, my wife is a first grade dual-immersion (Spanish) teacher. The den is the teacher's desk, and keeping 6-year olds engaged on a laptop can be a challenge. But she's doing it.

Yeah, I don't know how the lower grade teachers do it. Much respect. My wife (5th grade teacher) is currently set up in our living room, my daughter (a 5th grader in a separate district) has a desk set up in her play/dance room, and I'm in my home office. All on Zoom. It's pretty bizarre.

Yeah, our six year old is in a pod, because otherwise our days are done for, and our 4th grader is here at home. I'm definitely pleasantly surprised with how well our teachers are engaging the kids over zoom, at least compared to last year. And anything is better than summer with no activities.
@Derkderkall without prying too much, is that public high school syllabus or private?

It's actually working out pretty well for us. Wife has her corner of the den (partially blocking the TV, but none of us really watch TV anyway); I have the home office that's as good as my setup at work, if not better - two 25" monitors and a 70" corner desk, access via Azure to the shared drives and financial system; and my 21-year old daughter just moved back home, finishing up her final year of college. In her room. And doing her teaching duties as a supplemental instruction leader (for pay) from her bedroom.

And all for about 400 MB per month.

EDIT: And the bonus that I don't have to see my co-workers!!!!:Roflmao

Not to speak for @Derkderkall - ok, actually, yes to speak for @Derkderkall that's a national syllabus belonging to The College Board, (Advanced Placement) with local flavor. AP is a big part of my job as AP of AP.

And regarding comments above - we have a pretty cool sub teacher process. All teachers have added co-hosts to their Google Classrooms (or Canvas) and co-hosts for their recurring Zooms. As soon as a teacher needs a sub, one of our two resident subs grabs the job, gets the lesson plans from the teacher and takes the reins. No problemo!

This has strayed pretty far from "I didn't ride my bike today cuz..." but hey, go with the flow. I didn't ride my bike today because I was helping students and teachers connect - in a professional way, of course. First day of school went well.

Right, AP, of course. I do environmental stuff, so this was interesting. Anyway, apols for taking things off course. I didn't ride today cuz my bike is mid-tune up, I was tending to kids, reviewing a report on Timor Leste, chatting with some fools online, and I haven't broken the weekday riding barrier (yet).

Yeah, @herzalot covered it.

Yeah my sister is an 8th grade teacher and has told us what a struggle it is. Apparently there was basically no plan in place and she didn’t even know if they were going to school or doing distance learning till 4 days before school was to start.

Nick started high school this year. He’s ok with not going to actual school but I sure feel blessed to be able to have a wife that can be home and try to monitor things. Apparently with distance learning you’re not supposed to let your dog lay on the couch behind you and sleep and occasionally wake up to lick his junk while you’re in English class, who knew...?

Everyone knows he only does that because he can.

I think having something like that in the background would be awesome, keep the class interesting. Could be so much worse ya know.

And just FYI, zoom you can turn the camera and sound off if you have to fart or pick your nose....or...

Well there was also an incident that I guess was highly entertaining for the boys but not so much the gals. Nick says he missed it. Today they upgraded to zoom pro so we have been assured that won’t happen again. Only problem is all the login credentials were lost during the upgrade and most kids missed class today. You know I think I’d rather make paper airplanes with my tax dollars and see how far they fly till they figure this out.

That's awesome that you guys have things better ironed out (I read this to Kim). Her district, and in particular her school, have just been really poor with guidance for teachers, though they're obviously juggling a lot of balls. You'd think subs would be one of the first things they'd anticipate needing to have a solution for.

Just to keep things official, I also didn't ride my bike today. The cooler weather was almost enough impetus to get me to shirk some responsibilities and do an evening Space Mountain lap, but I got sucked back into adulting by a request for repair report from the would be buyers on our Mammoth condo requiring me to start the pointless search for an available electrician. The only one I got on the phone said his next availability is 12/29. Perfect.

With the stories I am hearing above about unpreparedness for remote learning, I am very proud of our district and school. We had less than 5% with issues today. First day. Students, staff and parents pretty much knew what to do and how to do it. And they had the equipment they needed. With a few exceptions of course. This includes Special Ed kids.

Still making up some stuff on the fly, but not an unmanageable or unprofessional amount.

And I will ride my bike (or board) on Friday!

And I will ride my bike (or board) on Friday!

Quoting myself is almost as bad as a gender reveal party.

I did ride my bike Friday, and my board Sunday and Monday. Even thought the payoff is very low for me (wave count), surfing is such great exercise. It counterbalances the leg-intensive workouts on bikes that never address the abs. Surfing - strong lats, strong abs. Unless you're a Kahuna on a great big board. Face it - surfing builds a better-looking body than "cycling" does.

Because after six days in a row, three at B*, an old man needs a rest (could use some abs too, but might be too late). Plus the Superlight needs new BB, chainrings, chain and cassette after about three years of three times a week outings. Doing it today. The ISIS BB bearings weren't bearing much. Thanks again to Switchback Cyclery for the best bike ever.
