I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today, Cuzz....

Thanks @Mikie. I consider myself off of Injured Reserve since late June regarding the clavicle, although not riding the stuff I want to ride, or the speed I prefer to carry.

I am newly sidelined this weekend with a protesting back that is not allowing me to stand up or sit down without severe protest. It'll calm down eventually. Happens about once per year. It's been a couple of years, actually. As I mentioned elsewhere, I pushed myself a little unwisely moving textbooks all last week. 15,000 of them (but we had lots of help).

4 day weekend coming up soon. Riding, surfing or both - I hope.

I feel for you and anyone with a recurring back issue. Literally! :gotnothing:

I’m reserved about taking meds but have come to realize there is a place for them. A 3-day regiment of muscle relaxers and anti inflammatory drugs gets me out of the hole. Methocarbamol (Robaxin) is much more user friendly than muscle relaxers like Soma, no drunk feeling or noted side effects. That with naproxen sodium (Aleve) and eventual light stretching and therapy exercises.

You’re an old hand at this by now but thought I’d share. I’m not a champion of pharmas but the methocarbamol is so improved from previous relaxers that I feel like I have a new tool for good back health.

Bend at the knees, people! :geek:

I let my Robaxin Rx lapse when my Primary Care Physician died. Aleve and Methocarbamol was the ticket, but it did take a day or two even so.

Interestingly, I could lift stacks of books just fine if they were at least pallet height off the floor. But I lifted a few stacks straight from the floor and that extra 4" made all the difference - in a bad way.

I'll get it fixed this weekend.

I keep a prescription of Robaxin on hand at all times. I have fairly frequent back spasms and it works well for that. It also helps me sleep when my back is causing my grief.

Good thing this discussion is happening in the context of a MTB forum. Would be equally at home at the bingo table in the assisted living home. For the record, Robaxin and Meloxicam are my cocktail of choice for recurring back issues. Next time you whippersnappers get your Robaxin refilled see if you can't get a script for the Meloxicam. Slightly better and longer lasting than the OTC stuff, and won't eat a hole in your gut (at least not as quickly).

I too use meloxicam when I need to. It's supposed to be specifically for reducing the inflammation caused by Uncle Arthur. And it works like a charm for about 3 days in a row for me.

I can’t possibly be the only one who first resorts to beer for every pain and ailment? Likely way cheaper than meds depending on your insurance and when taken in proper doses it’s guaranteed to work...

Nope. While alcohol does have a bit of a relaxation effect, it doesn't literally relax the back spasms or make me more mobile. Just makes me drunk and hungry.

I just scored an oz from the dispo for $135 !! My go to for all pain related issues, physical and mental.

Nope. Don't like dope. Not my jam. I don't function at all on the stuff and I hate the feeling. I've known and know many athletes who are at their best when half-baked, but I can't function at all. As for a muscle relaxer - probably works to mask the pain. Like I said though, I do not like the buzz.

Ah yes, the buzz, commonly known as an overdose. Easy to do when you're smoking it. Treat with food, music, and sex

That was going to be my question before asking him to pick me up one... :) My favorite dispo up here has tightened the belt a bit but I still get the senior discount.

Tom, I’ve tried mightily to use alcohol as a cure for various physical maladies. I got some nasty road rash once (when I was on the wagon), and pounded malt liquors to kill the pain. Worked perfectly. Other than that my body has made it clear that it does better without the water displacement from alcohol and caffeine. I won’t be giving up beer anytime soon, mind you...:geek:

Some strains of cannabis of course are known for pain-reducing qualities. IME edibles can be a good delivery means for physical pain. I don’t use edibles for recreation, but for a sleep aid or pain management I give em a vouch. Your budtender can help you pick a suitable strain, and of course there is a variety of product; chocolates, cookies, gummies that are not nasty to consume.

Glad you guys with spine issues are a step ahead of me with the Robaxin!

Pacific Stone brand, Private Reserve OG, indica.
Smallish buds, could use a little better trim, full 28g.
Light on the terps but heavy on effects.

Got it at the High Note

Heat schmeat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat. No ride today but least I played bike mechanic. Acquired enough parts recently to build back up the bike that @mtnbikej and @Faust29 tried to kill me with. Can't believe they let me on a ride with them down Motorway at night on this. Sheesh!

:stop:

My gravel bike is more slack.

And that was a scary crash...

Looks great, super clean.

What's wrong with it besides the missing right bar plug? :geek:

Been lazy the past two weeks. For a few reasons.

Been waiting out the heat wave.

Air quality had been poor. Spending several years of my life in Beijing, I'm trying to not punish my lungs any more...

Then, start of the school year, always hectic. Now in a new format. Plus I agreed to an AP course last minute,

Ill get back in the saddle, next weekend I guess...
