I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today, Cuzz....

Went hiking instead. No real plans, it was all depending on parking availability. They local canyon is closed on weekends right now. Thought it would be a good day to check out millard falls. No parking up top but managed to nab a spot where chaney crosses the road. We hiked up chaney, then continue up mt lowe road. Turned around just past the first set of towers. Let the little late loose from the bottom of sunset to the towers, so he was pooped. Had fun chasing lizards and watching ants though.

Took the road down to the car because we were told there was a snake, and we need to invest in better footwear with grip. My hikers are a bit too large.

This was supposed to go in the "I Rode My Bike..." thread and it's not that I didn't ride my bike today because I did. I just wasn't able to ride it for pleasure, as I had originally planned.

I set off for a nice relaxing Cherry Loop at 6:00pm tonight. One block down the road, the problematic/annoying creaking started. So far, I had pulled the BB apart and regreased it, cleaned the cranks while they were off, and switched pedals. None of those things eliminated the creak and I was getting frustrated. So, I rode through town as far as I could handle it then did an abrupt 180 and headed for home, the tires of my bike never feeling any dirt. I was cursing 4 letter words out loud the whole way home. It was listening hard to the creaking to try to pinpoint the location. Sometimes it sounded like it was in the BB, sometimes like it was in the headset, sometimes in the seat tube, and sometimes right smack in the middle of the inside of the downtube. So, I pedaled home infuriated, put the bike on a stand, pulled the seatpost and cleaned off any grit and reinstalled it. Then I pulled the stem and dropped the fork. I added more grease to the headset, pretty much buried it. I put it all back together and was basically ready to leave it as the LBS for them to figure out if it still creaked after the next test ride. I geared up and told the wife that I wasn't sure how far I'd make it but that I was headed to the City Park to do a lap. So, I set off. One block...no creaks. Two blocks, no creaks. Four blocks, total silence. I reached the park which gives me a small test lap on dirt/gravel/rocks/minor chunk. Did that lap and no creaking at all. No creaking on the ride back.

Best ride I've had in at least a week!

Yes! Good work

I’ve been getting creaking more lately in the clamp assembly part of the post. Drier conditions? That noise echoes off the saddle and ass like a megaphone and can be super tricky to pinpoint while riding IME. I did suspect the BB/crank first.

Well, I've officially got a mountain biker on my hands. Kim went out with the president of the LA chapter of Girls Gone Riding to Sycamore Canyon. Sounds like she put her through her paces. They did 19.3 miles, and based on where they were I'm guessing around 2,500 ft. She also had her first OTB. She, and supposedly the bike, are OK. She sounded on top of the world when I spoke to her. Looks like I need to fast track some pads.

She'll be wearing the purple jersey very soon!

AWESOMENESS!!!

It’s my truck pulling out of my driveway. But it’s not my bike, and I’m not driving. Officially competing for days.

Now ya done it! Be careful what you wish for? :geek: This is fabulous!! And those prelim numbers should scare you, son...:coffee: A good fear!!

When conditions align, you gotta christen your MTB relationship. (I naiively assume you haven't.) No RR, please. :speechless: Christenings from other sports are not transferable.

Nontransferable you say? This is one time I'm happy to be DQ'd by a technicality. COVID weekend trails have been thus far unconducive.

Yeah, she's going to be a force to be reckoned with. After an OTB I'd be in an Epsom salt bath with a belly full of ibuprofen, at best. She's currently upstairs doing yoga.

Luckily the GGR group preliminarily seems like a good fit. It will allow for some separation of church and state, both on the dirt trails and cyber trails, with rendezvous points along the way.

So cool @buggravy. My wife used to be an avid rider, but we rarely put in numbers like that. I wish she would start riding again, but Rheumatoid arthritis is a motherfu***r of a disease. Still, she's doing P90x as I type (I know, so last decade), so there's still hope. Her 2008 Titus Motolite is still a great bike, 26" wheels and all. I think "Going Green" at Snow Summit would bring back the stoke!

Oh and regarding the non-transferable - top of Georgia Pass (CO) back in 1996 or so. No pics.

Word on the street is she killed it!

Time to start shopping for a Sprinter/Transit/Promaster. I'd have one in a heartbeat if my wife rode.

Checked my tires, added some air, loaded up my bike, got to the trail head, she had a flat tire.:gotnothing:
Messed with it for a bit, didn’t see any punctures etc, so I tried airing her up realized the valve stem was leaking air pretty bad:facepalm:
Soooo...loaded up the bike, headed straight to my (incredibly busy)LBS, two hours later she’s good to go:Barefoot:
