Beware of SNAKES !

It finally happened and we had our first snake we had to deal with on the property. One of the biggest snakes I have dealt with as well. My neighbor Marv was driving past our place and saw a ginormous rattler putting up the road towards our house. This dude could eat our puppy! Marv jumped on his quad and came back over and together we found him and unfortunately I needed to end him. Out on the trail, live and let live. At the castle, no bueno. Marv said it was a Timber rattler. Sorry Ssssssnakes.

That's good eatin' in Arkansas. :Roflmao

I grew up in Fullerton long before the Fully Loop existed. We used to ride our Stingrays thru all of the open fields and hike down into crevices to the random pieces of wood or abandoned Model T that might harbor a snake or two. I'd guess we had 80% Gopher snakes, 19% King snakes, 1% Red Racers. We probably caught over 100 snakes in 5 fun summers. Hard to believe that we never saw or heard a Rattler out there. Fun to grow up in the land of the Orange groves and oil fields. Keep the pictures coming!

I used to capture snakes and release them. Then I started chasing the baby rattlers off the trail by banging my front wheel. One time I found a Mojave Green and dispatched it with a shovel, I tossed it 30 feet into the desert. Right now I am seeing 100% gophers but that will change.
Happy snake trails

Copperhead

A rough green snake. Was on the side of the road and I assume he was run over by something. Their skin turns blue after they die.

Had a Copperhead on my back porch right next to the back door last Wednesday evening. Didn’t even know what it was. It looked exactly like this one. I snagged it with my snake grabber and took it for a walk to the end of the property. He comes back, and it’s a different walk. :whistling:

@SnakeCharmer got a couple for you. What are they? This one is tiny and in a Tupperware bowl. He was just inside my back door. Prolly 2 1/2 inches?

This one was this morning. Maybe 12 inches? That is 3/4” rock he is laying on.

The tiny one could be a Smooth Earth snake. The lower one is a Great Plains Rat Snake which is popular in the pet trade. Nice finds!
