World's Greatest Athlete - Ever

hmmmm...

ok, with that logic wouldn't you need to remove Slater from this list? I mean he hasn't had any MAJOR injuries, minus the broken foot this past summer. Other than that he has been injury free. :geek::laugh:
Yes, but I am woefully inconsistent in my logic. Let's see if I can wiggle out of this one.

Slater is perhaps the World's Greatest Athlete for the the reasons I've mentioned. You do not HAVE to have recovered from debilitating injury in order to be classified as such. All the rest of his accomplishments, fitness, longevity, mental toughness in competition, skill and style all in a dynamic and dangerous environment puts him at (or near) the top of the list.

However, if you have recovered from significant injury to return to the very top of your sport - that give you HUGE bonus points.

See - totally logical!

Well, I missed it. But I am guessing @Mikie said something a little snarky about some of Lindsey's body parts?
I did not! She has a normal, fit, athletic female body – just like I get to see, in person, at home, without the paint, all year long. :geek:

No man or boy appreciates the female form more than I do. But these model layouts done by famous athletes come off the same to me...cringe worthy. I respect these athletes greatly – as athletes, and as people who can do truly great things with their celebrity (or not if they choose). But they should leave the modeling work to professionals. How about a ski race for only runway models? I'd have as much interest in that as I do an average-looking athlete with the body paint gimmick.

But!!!!!!!!! Carry on with the celeb drool sesh :D

I honestly couldn’t care less about celebrities etc.. Heck, if I just saw those with no mention of who they were I wouldn’t even know. Just a dude in my own little world.

What I don’t want to see is more of these “body positive” models in SI swimsuit issues etc who are basically projecting that being overweight is ok. And I am not ok paying more for healthcare because it is now encouraged to balloon up like a walrus. Every time we are at Disneyland I am utterly appalled at the size of people. It used to be rare to see morbidly obese people but now I feel like my family is a minority amongst the new norm.

@herzalot ... I said something snarky? :coffee:
OK, OK, @mike was right. I tagged the wrong Mike. I saw this post http://www.imtbtrails.com/forum/threads/worlds-greatest-athlete-ever.6495/page-5#post-118796 and realized I must have missed something that was subsequently deleted. Evidently something that Mike decided was too mean to leave in place. I assumed it was a snarky comment about a body part or two. I also incorrectly attributed it to @Mikie. My apologies on both counts.

Carry on.

Where were we. Ah yes. Lindsey Vonn is a great athlete. 81 World Cup race wins. Badass training regimen. Recovered from horrendous injury several time to return to the top of the sport. One of the greatest. Kelly Slater is a great athlete. 11 World Titles. Great in any wave in any conditions. Death defying. Influential, ground breaking. Aesthetic. 25 years at the top. One of the greatest.

Lifelong tennis player and I go to Indian Wells almost every year. Amazing to watch Nadal, and most players practice. But I absolutely refuse to watch him play a match, whether in person or on TV for as long as he's been a top player. It's like watching Peter Jackson play tennis, only worse. I've watched him play doubles and he simply walks to the line and serve, not even one bounce. They really are all corrupt!

I don't understand this reference.

Slatz talking to my son about surf photography at his wave pool in Lemoore. The guy is so cool and down to earth. Made my son’s day!
