World's Greatest Athlete - Ever

And what sport do you propose is more difficult than surfing?

I am talking a combination of a specialized skill, physical fitness, risk, courage, motion and environment. Maybe DH or EWS mt biking.

the only type that of athletic event I could think of would be some sort to of endurance event. For instance, maybe triathlon, ultra marathon or Spartan style racing. But you have to be good for the same length of time and accolades.

None of those require specialized skills.

Road biking?

I guess I don't consider activities that nearly everyone does a specialized skill. Almost everyone can walk, run, ride a bike on relatively smooth ground and swim. Fine tuning those movements to a competitive level is impressive, but I don't consider those a specialized skill. Swimming - yes - once you get into the four major strokes. Once you decide/discover that you have the natural ability to run, ride or swim fast (or for a long period of time) relative to other humans - the rest is fine tuning, physical training and tactics. Not a lot of dynamic body control required.

I'll duck now...

Naw, surfing is too subjective. The scores are based on the “opinion” of the judges. How much of the score is based on performance and how much is based on being Kelly Slater…….. I’ll see myself out now. :whistling:
Fair comment I suppose, if not a little jaded.

Every once in a while the scores might be so close as to beg that question. But not very often. And there was absolutely nothing questionable in the scoring of his waves in the 6 heats he won this past week (he didn't win the first heat, he was 2nd, but good enough to progress to Round 3). If that were common, we would be hearing about it over and over again from competitors, former judges, critics and even the average Joe. I don't think it's something that would be accepted for 30 years without criticism. His win percentage would have been much higher if the judges were giving him extra credit for being Kelly.

Let’s check in with Mikaela Shiffrin in about 5 years. I think she’ll have a claim at Herz’s title. Putting your career/life on the line in DH when you’re a shoo-in to collect tons of slalom wins is some serious courage/foolhardiness.

Yeah she just booted out on her 5th turn in the GS today... Ooops.

Lindsey Vonn is going to be hard to dethrone, but Mikaela is technically a better skier. And I raced against her mom in Masters races in Colorado, so I've got that going for me.

I'm guessing that would either be John Daly of the PGA or Pete Weber of the PBA. :D

I watched at Bay Hill (Orlando) as the course marshals had to clear the driving range of all the pros who were warming up before their round. The reason? Daly had pulled one so far off course that it cleared the fairway, the rough, the next fairway, and finally landed in the driving range.

He was always entertaining... Certainly a GOAT in terms of golf comedy.

Also had the opportunity to play the course the Monday after the tournament ended that year. The pin placements and tee markers were at the most difficult settings imaginable on every single hole.

I've only golfed twice, once with my brother because he was a fanatic...the type that would travel to Pismo, all over Hawaii, etc to pay silly $$. I went with him to the Newport Mesa "par 3" course. I started with 6 balls and lost them all by the 9th hole. The other time was at a bachelor party in Cincinnati at a private club the groom's father belonged to. I can drive it but everything collapses after that. I hit one drive about 300 yards...the problem was the hole was probably 200 yards and I hit a house way past the green. I also don't have the patience to golf. Even when I play miniature golf, if I have to wait at a hole, I'll just walk to another unoccupied hole.

Put some excitement into it, a little heckling cheering and swing golfer golfers swing! LOL.... of they were any good they wouldn't need silence. Even mtb racers get noise!

Hey, he farted and made me miss the shot!

My bad. I’m pretty sure I jinxed her.
