Who's Riding Where???

Looks great. Hey, Tom, wassup? Regale us with a conditions report and realty twist that knife in the poor saps sweating it out farther south. What elevation?

@kingaucho, et al, up here around Truckee: Big Chief trail from town. Up 06 and down. Like to go Saturday early.
Slight change of plans. I get there on 6/26. @mike , we will get together for a ride and hopefully beers for sure! Wonder how Sawtooth is? I want to go do some of the trails by Martis Peak. Possibly Mt Hough stuff near Graeagle and Quincy. Interested, @mike ?

Hey Mike do you actually know this Tom guy? Cause if you do that blows my mind? He just sold his house and lived in Pahrump Nevada. Actually though knowing you, you probably do know him.

I’ve ridden with him and his kid, I believe. T2, no? He got on a ride I posted awhile back unless I’m mistaken. Quiet guy. Photo Tom sure looks a lot like him if it’s not!

Nah, I’m not interested in any of that stuff. :p

Sawtooth is riding great with the normal clutch of stuck-up Truckee residents hiking on it. Not many riders midweek. The stuff around the Perimeter Trails was surprisingly good if tame. See ya later!

No, different Tom, Random guy we meet at the pool in the camp site, talked about the whole ride, good company. He was an x armature rode racer, when I asked if he wanted to join us his eyes lite up! What a beast!

It depends... If the total enrollment stays at 4 including me, logistics are simple. I can handle the shuttle and there's no need for a return trip up the mountain, and no need to leave a vehicle up there at night. We're not at 4 yet...

If enrollment goes over 4, then we have to plan...
@Faust29 did you guys fill the shuttle yet? I might be talked into coming up for this.

Descending Lower Merrill would be interesting as I've only climbed it as well, but I don't recall thinking it would be a great descent. Just recall a bunch of switchbacks with some steps in between them. Sunset/El prieto is so much fun and sounds like you usually have to deal with hikers on those now.

Really? I’ve ridden Sunset about 10 times and I’d guess I’ve seen less than 10 hikers total. I’ve ridden El Prieto 3-4 times and have come across maybe 20 hikers total and easily 1/2 of that total was on our last ride there. However, they all heard my bell before I ever saw them and had moved aside.

Every trip report I've seen recently has commented about hikers on those trails. It's been maybe 5 yrs since I've ridden them, and I don't think I ever saw hikers. So yeah, your experience seems to confirm more hikers using them now.

Time to test them out...

But don't they add .5 grams?!?!
Mine are carbon titanium ceramic - they actually have a negative weight value and speed up the rotation of the wheel. You could see it if you followed me climbing, at least for a little while until a slowly pulled away from you due to the aerodynamic and rotational advantages. It's science!

PLUS - all that air that leaks out from not having stem caps on stays in your tires with VSCs in place.

I drilled out mine for weight reduction. All that’s left is a little ring that I screw on.
