Who's Riding Where???

I was thinking of maybe riding up blackstar tomorrow, and hitting the extra credit singletrack on the way down. I’ve never ridden blackstar and hiked it once, decades ago.
But...
Is it a crowded sh!tshow mid-week like I’ve heard it is on the weekends? If so maybe I’ll pass

Shouldn’t be nearly as bad as the weekends. Even then it’s only bad for the first 10 mins. Once you make the turn where the trail for the Falls begins, it’s mostly just bikes.

we were there Sunday afternoon and it was relatively quiet.

mid week afternoons have been on the quiet side.

If it’s cool/cold...even better.

thanks! It’s obvious where to park right?
Any tips re the singletracks? Easy to find? 2 of them are on Trailforks but I thought there was a 3d

I park at the Tree Farm and ride in. Otherwise just drive down til you reach the gate.

Singletracks.....

1. about 25’ from the gate at the top.
2. Booby Trap: off the left side shortly below #1. You can see it from the road
3. After you climb out of Hidden Ranch, as you begin to go DH, up to the right at the paved left hand turn
4. Off the left just above the hairpin turn with giant ruts in it. Short.
5. Easy to follow across road at end of #4
6. At end of # 5 go left at the big right hand hairpin...you’ll see a single track. As soon as you can, make a left hand turn on the ST....the trail doesn’t go straight.

Hit all of the single tracks... But especially Booby Trap. :inlove:

Edit: Just saw the detailed instruction... Follow those. :D

Thanks J!

There's also a fun little DH at the Indian rocks... But last time I tried it, I dead ended at the creek and had to climb back up... It used to go through and reconnect to the road in Hidden Ranch.

If you don't get up there much, I'd explore the ruins and maybe go to the ball... If you turn left on Main Divide, instead of going to the popular ruins at Beeks, there are more. Only 50 yards or so up Main Divide, up to the right... It's a fun extra credit single track to the top of Skyline. Short climb to get back up where you started.

Is there a reason to park at the tree farm instead of the gate?

That’s what I was afraid of. So tree farm a lot safer?
I actually usually park at gate - I haven’t had any issues
If you’re riding after dark could be a consideration
Funny story, years ago I got back to my car very late, well after dark. I realized I locked my keys in the car -so mad!
I was the last car there
While I was contemplating how to handle the situation, I see headlights coming down the road towards me, fast
I was relieved to see it was an OC sheriff who didn’t even let me speak
He asked if I had seen anyone
I replied No
He says that he was chasing some guy on Santiago road who crashed his car and is running this way
Cop proceeded to burn rubber and haul away from me leaving me in the dust and all alone
**I rode into Silverado and called my wife, never did see anyone

During the day.....it, I'd imagine that it's safe down by the gate....but it's just habit for me to park at the Tree Farm.

Not to say that vehicles haven't been broken into at the Tree Farm, but doesn't happen very often.
Just park in the tree farms parking lot?

Maybe Luge. Maybe LCWP, probably nowhere though. Got to go see Dad. Rumors of his death last weekend were greatly exaggerated.

EDIT: I did neither. Wife took forever to get home from her errands. We headed for SD around 3:45 - which was 2 hours after we intended. The traffic was backed up from Oceanside to San Clemente, so we turned around and will re-set for tomorrow.

I WILL ride my bike tomorrow (Sunday) morning. Double Luge or LCWP.
